Hey all,

I'm good with handguns but new to rifles. I am buying a DPMS AR10 on Friday (payday), and I can't decide between the DPMS 308B and 308T. The main difference is that the 308B is a little thicker 18" bull barrel and the 308T is a 16" heavy barrel (about .2" thinner). My question is, how much accuracy am I giving up by giving up .2" thickness and 2" off length to have a little lighter rifle?

Thanks....

None at those lengths, if it was 16 and 24 maybe. You'll like the light one believe me.
To clarify, stiffness makes or helps accuracy. 2 barrels of the same contour but different lengths the shorter one should be more accurate because it is stiffer.
On one of the barrel makers sites, probably Lilja or Pac Nor there is a stiffness calculator that will give you a ratio to compare. A long pencil barrel will be whippy while a short bull barrel will have very little vibration. Who knows why they designed the M4 barrel like they did.

the lenghth is not about accuracy as much as velocity. longer barrel =longer/more accurate shot before the bullet get SS
