I've been reading up on SSK industries 6.5 MPC (multi-purpose-cartridge). Why wouldn't the Government jump on this? It's a 5.56 case, just necked up & shortened a little to hold a 6.5 bullet. Uses the same AR bolts & mags, all they have to change is the barrels. Ammo is anything from 85grn to 140grn (they recommend 120 grn). Good past 300m. And still supersonic at 1000m. What do you think? cheers, LT Their website is www.sskindustires.com |

I think the concept should be pushed a little further by using the line-up of 6.8 bullets in the 90 to 115 gr category.Use the overall length of the 6.8 spc (43mm and same length as 222 rem.).Like a super 30 carbine. It would be like a 100 yd spc but you have the benefit of using once fired 556 brass.I'm not picking here, I think if you load anything 120gr or above you'll eat into too much case capacity to do anything with the 6.5mpc.By limiting the bullets to 90-115 spc specific bullets you'll keep the coal and case capacity at optimum while one upping the 30 carbine by maybe 50% d/t more case capacity and more efficient bullet. I like the concept but it needs to be maximized by going up (6.8x43/556) or down (6x41/556).The first max's case length and bullet diameter and the second max's bullet/case efficiency.Or you could go hybrid 6.3x42 which would allow you to be able to use spent 22 mag rf cases to draw your own bullet jackets(same for 6mm) and use wheel weight alloy for the cores and of course once fired 556 brass for some very economical reloads. You just can't utilize the 6.5's strengths loaded so deep in a small capacity case-at least with the ugly BC 6.8 you wouldn't have to load it so deep because it is larger diameter. This would do great in short barrels too! ETA I-60,000 psi vs. 40,000 psi (6.8x43/556 vs 30 carbine),that's 50% right there not to mention 50% more case capacity and more efficient bullet! ETA II- 300 whisper w/110gr bullet @ 2400fps(1.4"case)=7.62x39= DEER ETA III- a river of once fired 556 brass is flowing on the planet right now |
