Hi Guys, New member here. I have been shooting and hunting for many years now, I have a lot of experience with bolt action rifles and pump shotguns and love to shoot and reload. I want to get a good semi-auto rifle and thought this would be a great place to get opinions and advice on what to look at and what to avoid. I always like to do my homework and keep the regrets down to a minimum so I hope I'll get some good input from the guys that have "been there and done that". I know I don't want a .223---nothing wrong with the .223, I just want something bigger. I would really love to get something in 7mm-08 since I have everything I need for that caliber as I have 2 bolt guns chambered for it now---and I like the ballistics and bullet choices. I want to scope the rifle and would also like iron sights---a easily removable scope and good iron sight back-up is what I would prefer. I would also like to fit the rifle with a bi-pod. Weight is not a big factor but I would like to keep it as lite as possible. I am a COMPLETE NOVICE when it comes to semi-autos. I have talked to a few people about what to look at and have a very rough idea about what may be out there. I would like to know what rifles you all prefer---what feeds reliably, has the fewest problems etc. I am only interested in accurate rifles and can't stand something that won't shoot. I would like something that is capable of MOA accuracy or better out of the box. Would prefer not to go custom but if I have to I will. I know there is probably no one out there chambering in 7mm-08--off the shelf----so I may have to go semi-custom. Anyway, some of you have probably answered these questions many times before. I hope you'll do it one more time and help me out. Thanks Guys, Rich |

Thanks Guys, I figured I would have to go to an AR-10 rifle for the family of cartridges I want. I have been thinking about this and thought I may as well get one in .308 and add another upper in 7mm-08. That still leaves me with which rifle to purchase?? Some of you here probably have owned 2 or 3 different rifles from different companies. Which rifle do you prefer?? Which seems most reliable and accurate right out of the box?? I notice a fairly wide difference in price range from company to company----what's worth it and what's not?? Thanks, Rich |
