I just got my .450 upper in the mail. here I an really interested in playing around with the load to see how a JHP performs, and to see how much more FPS I can get out of the load. As it stands now Hornady's SST is the only commercial load available that I can find. Is anyone else planning to make the loads? |
So far only the single loading from hornady but Id expect something to come out at shot in feb. I have several personal contacts at Hornady and I will be speaking to them at the show, I would think they would be offering more loads once the uppers have made it out to the public in some numbers. |
That would be some interesting news, a couple more rounds would pretty much get me to buy one. Heck, I would probably settle for just one more new round. |

Flash, Not really when you look at the bigger picture, big bore AR market, and the stratagy Hornady has taken in the past. Heck, the 17HMR was darn near out there with no loads available. I remember the 17 cartrdige rationing by gun shops. As to the big bore market, I suspect that having RRA sarting to produce, but being behind on the 458S probably enticed (or at least offered a window) Hornady and BM to take a gamble. Right now with the popularity of big bore and variant AR calibers, I would say that all bets are off regarding marketing strategies. 450BM, Congrats and keep us posted on what you are doing with it. And, being an elk hunter, I would not discount it as a useable weapon. Craig |

Like all things that start out it about the potential. The bullet is actually .451 and is a very available bullet in many wieghts and many types! The case is even cut from a surplus round 6.8mm, unlike the 458 socom that is based on another specialty round 50 bowolf. |
450 Bushmaster is based off 284 Winchester and was previously known as the .45 Professional marketed by LeMag out of Michigan (see Guns&Ammo special issue 2000) It is NOT based on the 6.8 x 43 SPC (which has the same case head size as 10mm and 40S&W and its parent the 30 Remington) 458 SOCOM is NOT based on the .50 Beowulf or the .499 LW and we have documents that clearly show we had our brass from Starline BEFORE the then Leitner Wise company had decided upon dimensions and this was BEFORE Bill Alexander left LWRC ... The .458 SOCOM has a different rim size than either the .50B or .499 LW and is shorter for a reason (so you can use 300 gr Spitzer bullets seated at cannelure) |

Tell them we want .458 Leverevolution/SST bullets!!! And we want them now, not in '09. Tell Barnes we want a .458 Tipped TSX!!! (I already emailed them with my $0.02)

| I have a new 450 Bushmaster carbine also, have not fired it yet, but love the quality and the advice I getting from Bushmaster on options. Have it totally apart, am installing a Magpul CTR stock, Magpul trigger guard, CCA grip, and that new Samson Star freefloat handguard, it's looking really good with that Bushmaster railed gas block left in place. Will post some pics when done soon... |

I picked up the 450 bushmaster rifle early last December. I have read lots of posts with folks wondering about availability of other ammo. Essentially, according to Hornaday, no dies, bullets or loading data will be released in the immedate future (per a call I made). The bullet by the way is the same used by the inline muzzleloading crowd. 452 diameter (in 50 cal sabot). So any of these will work. I would be most interested in the Barnes 245 Grain. Did shoot my deer with it this year -- dropped like a rock. Rifle shoots very well, 1 1/2 inches or so at 100 yards. |
| Cabelas maybe. In Dec everyone seemed to have it, hopefully just a short wait. I have enough brass to reload, just waiting on Hornady to release the die set. I think a very useable load can be worked up with a Hornady 300grn XTP MAG. I know for a fact that with the 450, I can drop anything on the property from black bear down with the 250SST factory round. |
Where do you want them sent to Marty? |
Sent you an IM with the addy. As to the idea, I grabbed some things I had laying around and well, let's just say that when I get tingly all over and actually can't sleep ... Now, it will be a departure from the current accepted norm, but I think we can make some folks take notice ... It will take a little time, too, so I doubt it will be ready before SHOT 2009 (yes, 9), but .... ENOUGH WITH THE THREAD-JACK, BACK TO THE TOPIC AT HAND |
