I'm drooling over the RRA 6.8mm mid-length A4 upper. Somebody talk me out of it! |
|
IM NOT GOING TO TALK YOU OUT OF IT..... Im going to talk you into it. I have 2 RRA .223/556 AR's and love them both, you will love the 6.8 I betcha!! Plus its one of the best priced 6.8s out there, I "believe" its better priced then the stag 6.8 and I find RRA to be better quality. |

I have 3) 6.8 SPC weapons. All Ko-Tonics uppers. (If they weren't Ko-tonics they probably would be RRA.) 18" Midweight Ion Bond, 16" Midweight and a lightweight 16". All ride on Bushmaster 6.8 marked lowers with RRA NM triggers. This strain of black rifle disease is bad bad juju. Run Away, Run Away |

Anyone that gets a carbine length gas system instead of a mid-length when 16 inches is involved is ignorant, stupid or an ass. Chosing RRA over Ko-tonics is well... a matter of taste. www.ko-tonics.com Enjoy your 6.8 rifle. You did good either way. BTW, ask RRA if the rifle you are getting can handle SSA Combat Loads. |

If Wolf would start making 6.8mm ammo it would definately tip me over the edge of the abyss. The main thing holding me back right now is the expense of ammo. C'mon Wolf, you make 6.5mm Grendel ammo... I emailed Wolf and asked them if they plan to make 6.8mm ammo. Maybe if enough of us email them, they'll see the light. [email protected] . |

SSA will have their 'cheaper' plinking loads out soon.... But given the Ko-Tonics improved #2 chamber and 1 in 11 twist...unless RRA has the same chamber and twist rate... I'd advise Ko-Tonics... And I've owned lots of Rock Rivers and still do...in fact my KT rides on one of RR's first run lowers... |
The ammo ain't cheap it's true but it's not really significantly more expensive than top shelf 5.56 ammo like Black Hills which would be more of an apples to apples comparison. I do hope SSA will hurry along with their plinking ammo and I dream about the day that Wolf wakes up to see what a market there will be for Wolf 6.8 SPC. I gotta tell ya, I own all kinds of fun toys to shoot. 03A3 Springfield's, Enfields, Garands, M1 Carbines, M1A's, 5.56 AR's including an LWRC piston upper. By FAR my favorite rifles are the 6.8 AR's. The 6.8 just seems to me to be the perfect round for the platform. Kinda like a Garand in 7.62. It just feels right. |

Yes, we need a plinking round. Art@SSA is coming out with one after the new year. We also need to get another manufacturer to produce some. You don't want to put all your eggs in one basket. Right now, if SSA bowed out, we would be hurting. We want top support SSA as much as possible as they have done so much to help this round and kept it alive when another crap manufacturer dropped the ball and started to try and kill the round. But we still need a Wolf or other manufacturer to produce a $10.00 or under box of 20 plinking ammo of reasonable quality. But the real answer to inexpensive ammo is and always will be to reload. The real answer to cheap is to reload. Its cheaper more accurate and tailored to your weapon. You need to shop around and find the great deals and buy in bulk. Here's a break down of costs per round of a self loaded plinking round I have loaded for me. You will have to do some searching to find these prices but they are available to everyone no special deals or anything. Bullet: $0.135 per bullet Powder: $0.054 per case filled with max powder load Case: $0.028 this is based on prorating tehhe cost of brass over 10 reloads. SSA brass has gone well past this so it could actually be less. Primer: $0.018 per case load ----------------------------------------- Total Per Round Cost: $0.245 20 Round Box Cost: $4.70 100 Round Case Cost: $23.50 Thats about a 75% savings versus some factory loads. Not to bad. These were based on the best prices I have been able to purchase components for to date. You aren't going to every touch that even in 5.56 surplus loaded ammo. Further the accuracy of that loaded round is .75 moa @ 100' average. But you do have to really shop around and know how to really use Goggle to work for you. further the purchase items were purchase in huge bulk purchases just the normal listed ones: 500 bullets, 8 lb powder, 5000 primer, 1000-2000 brass one time purchase.
