I have a DPMS LRT SASS that has apx. 200 rnds. of federal eagle through it. last time at hte range I started to experience a failure to eject. Field stripped the bolt/carrier group did not notice any problems.

later while more completely cleaning, I noticed the gas rings on the bolt were "timed" wrong (the gaps lined up).

took it out he next day put 20 rnds through and it ran fine.

My questions are 1) why did the rings move by themselves? ( I am aware of why they are there and casually looked at them last time I cleaned). 2) is there a way to prevent this from occurring again? 3) my friends son was home from the CORPS and when I asked him (he was an armorer/assistant? at one time) he said that the weapon should still function and related a story how his operated under similar circumstances. So, will this cease to be a cause for malfunction once the weapon is "broken in" more?

Thanks in advance

the rifle probably just needed more lube.  I've purposely lined up the gas ring gaps, and it didn't make any difference with the operation of the rifle.

Just a bump and response

The rifle was lubed, not to much but certainly not dry.

Give more lube, I experienced that on mine and douched it. My Colt liked it fairly dry but it appears DPMS likes it wet at first.

Ejection has little to do with gas rings. Do mean to say extract?

Yup....should be a non-issue once the rifle's broken in a bit more. My 6.8 build is just about broken in and it's had approx. 400 rds. through it. Your mileage may vary.....

The rifle is extracting fine. It appears that the spent brass is not clearing the front of the ejection port. However, it is still able to strip a new round from the magazine.

Sooooo, I end up w/ a live round and spent case trying to feed.

check for a sticky ejector and lube if needed, next check to see if your cases are tight in the bolt or possibly burrs on the case that might slow the ejector from kicking the case out.

I am one of the folks that does not believe that the rings being lined up can pass enough gas to matter.  huh huh huh I said "pass enough gas"

Just forget about the FTE unless it continues to happen

Had the same problem on my new LR 308. Sent it into DPMS. Came back working fine. They told me the smith identified the problem and fixed it. I got the gun back and no problems anymore.  Unfortunately they did not tell me what the problem was.

Either way, if you can't get a resolution give them a call.

Thanks Guys,
This is the kinda stuff I love this site for.
I'll call DPMS and see if it's a regular problem (per GMAN99)

Again Thanks
