| Buy a reloading manual or two and read the data for service rifles. New Speer is out and Hornady latest are two good ones to start with. Wide choice of powder and bullets. You did not indicate which DPMS you have or your goals so it is really hard to comment in a concise fashion. |
Welcome to the site, I suggest you spend some time looking over this site. Your question might be better answered in the reloading forum. www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=1&f=9 |

Any VLD is harder to get to shoot accurately, most like to be stuffed into the lands about .010. That's not something you want to do in a gas gun. This is just my opinion. Nosler 150 and 165 BTs, Sierra 150,155,168, 175 all shoot well out of mine, Nosler 165s the best. 2.8 is the max overall length. best load-41gr 4895, 165 NBT, 2.8"OL, Fed 215 primers, Winchester or Lapua brass. Any secant type ogive(spire point,VLD) bullet, like the hornady Vmax is hard to tune and should best be left to experienced loaders. Last I wouldn't shoot anything over 175 in a 308 gas gun, too much of the bullet is inside the case taking up powder space. |

Hello, are you a seasoned hand loader ?? if you are new and learning stick to the manual's and dont try to push them over the limit , if you know what you are doing then i have loads for the following in a DPMS LR 308 Lapua 155 IMR 4895 fed 210 Hornady 168 M Varget & mag primers ( 1 sweet @ss tight hole with this one ) Sierra 168 & 175 IMR 4064 fed 210 all loads 1/2 moa or less if you do your part @ 100 TS2 |
| Stick with the proven powders to start out with and when you get bored with shooting tiny groups at long distances then you can start playing around with differernt powders. I bought IMR 4895 and Varget to start out with and 4895 shot so well that I never broke open the Varget until recently and that was for my 5.56 loads. If it were me I buy a 1 lb can of IMR 4895, IMR 4064, Varget and RL-15. I didn't have any luck with RL-15 but many guys swear by it. You should have good results if you stick to proven combos. Certain powders perform better with certain primers. I find Winchester primers shoot well with a wide variety of powders. I couldn't tell a difference in my groups using Federal match primers and Winchesters. I stuck with the Winnies because they are cheaper. I also like IMR powders because they seem to be more consistant between lots, more so than Varget and RL-15. |
