I just purchased a new LR-308 and when I tried disassemble the bolt carrier group for its initial cleaning and lube, I found the cam pin will not clear the bolt carrier key. The firing pin and the firing pin retaining pin are out and of course and cam pin rotated. The bolt carrier key appears to be tight and aligned correctly...just not enough clearance to get it out. I've not pulled on it with pliers or tried prying past the bolt carrier key for fear of voiding the warranty or damaging the carrier key. Have any other LR-308 users seen this or have any suggestions before I call DPMS? |
To get mine out I have to flip the bolt carrier group (BCG) over and, while holding the bolt carrier by the end, slap it into my other hand and the inertia usually works on the cam pin and it should fall into the catching hand. I hope this helps. ETA: Probably a good idea to forget about anything having to do with pliers. |
| my LR-308 TAC20 has the same issue. i had heard that these rifles were "tight" when new, and loosened up after some break-in. this is my 1st AR, so i have no experience to base any of this. mine is pretty damned tight. i really didn't think it would come out, except for the fact that somehow it fit in in the first place.....well, either that or the tube was put on last. i have to use a small screwdriver to carefully pry it out. no way a slap will do it....no way. it's still very new, only 160 rds fired. it's not loosening up any though. someone actually suggested stoning it down a bit & cold blue when done. i just have to wonder if that would be a good idea or not. does the size/fit have a purpose? i'm perfectly content prying it out if there's any risk envolved. maybe find a brass tool to do it with. |
