Got the lower and parts kit assembled earlier today. Got the port door attatched to the upper also. Planning on building a 16" match grade carbine out of this unless I get talked out of it. This is my first AR10 so here are my questions. Will a 16" midlength gas system be enough for the gun to function properly? What kind of accuracy and distance can I expect out of a 16" (looking at 300-500)? Will my standard Vltor collapsible stock tube function with the AR10 buffer and spring? Will any 308 bolt carrier extension work in a Armalite upper? Break or flash supressor? Anything else I may be missing would be appreciated. Pictures of existing builds welcome. Thanks, Steve |
I would get a 18" barrel. Midlenght GS will work, be aware AR10 gas tubes are longer than AR15 gas tubes (3/16") I have a rifle GS on a 18" upper and it runs. Barrel length has little to do with accuracy, barrel stiffness has a lot. The only time it will matter is when you want to shoot longer ranges and need the barrel length to keep the bullet supersonic. AR 10 buffer and spring should work in that tube The AR10s are threaded the same as AR15s. That being said, you have to watch spring/buffer combos because they could be too long to work in the AR10. I have a vortex on my Noveske, which if you want a great accurate upper, get one of those. |
Amen on the Noveske barrel, I love the one I have and Id like to buy one in 6,8 as well. |
