i have heard that this wildcat uses 6.8 SPC cartridges, and a .30 HERRET die set.  does anyone have any other info on this round?  I would guess more power than the 300/221 Whisper round, due to the fact of more powder space.  what type of bullet weight would be good for a 1-10 twist ratio?  What types of velocities and energy from her?   (so to compare to 33 whisper.)   thanks guys, brian.

I looked very hard at the 30 HRT, and then bought a 6.8spc and have been very happy.

It would be a round with 110-125gr loads

yeah. the more and more i think about it, it would be easier and cheaper to just get the 6.8 spc.   although the 30 hrt has its place.  i would have to invest a lot of money and time into a round, and not recieve the benifits that the 6.8 spc gives. and i would be using all the 6.8 spc stuff!!

You might look at a 6.5 MPC

uhhh, I might

Indeed, 6.8 SPC brass in a 30 Herrett die.  The idea was that with this cartridge you CAN shoot 240 SMK subsonic with CARBINE length gas system, as opposed to the 300-221, which needs PISTOL length gas system to do so.  Both systems will need adjustable gas blocks/tubes to be able to run the full range of loads.

As to performance, a few threads here have discussed the numbers, but here goes:
110 Vmax, 16" bbl, about 2700 fps
155 Amax, 16" bbl, 55000 psi, 2.31 COL, about 2200 fps
168 SMK, about 2100 fps (slighty compressed loads)
240 SMK, about 1000 fps ...

Will it do more than the 300-221?  Yes, it has far more capacity.  But that only comes to play with the lighter bullets.

For 1-10 twist, no heavier than 180 gr ... which defeats part of the purpose of this round

Ballistics are right in line with 30 Herrett so books should have it, COTW, Lee, etc
How to on reloading, same thing
Dies - Hornady has nice set of 30 Herrett dies
Brass - SSA has good brass, I would just buy from Midway
