Curious who has, what you know, etc.

I recieved this a week or so ago from Bushmaster.
Hello,
This is all the information I have at this time.
Subject: .450 Bushmaster

This link to Hornady http://www.hornady.com/story.php?s=543 shows the .450 Bushmaster. The only other information I have at this time is that the barrels will have a 1/24 twist with a muzzle velocity of 2200 fps. A single shot follower http://www.bushmaster.com/shopping/dcm/ss-fol.asp installed in a 30 round .223 magazine will hold 9 rounds.
Bushmaster and Hornady are geared to introduce the rifle and cartridge late April or May.
I do not have a part number or pricing at this time.

Thank you,
Jim Eden

I also want to see this one come to life! I have no need to shoot bullets in excess of 300 grains and would rather have the large selection of .452 pistol bullets to choose from. The 250 grain SST is susposed to be traveling at 2200 fps and have surprizingly flat trajectory.

I read somewhere that the case is a cut down .30-'06 case.

Could be speculation, though, 'cause I don't know.

Anyways, I like it!

According to my local gunstores hornady rep, it's basically the 460 S&W case. Just recut the case head, and shortened the case about .050. If the performance of the 10" x-frame revolvers are anything to go by should be one nastly little cartridge.

Mark,

There have been a number of threads on this cartridge, above is one.  Your post is kinda interesting as I think it is the first that mentions a single shot follower.  That is kinda different.  Your info does say it will hold 9 rounds, so I have to assume that the follower is being used as a moving part, as opposed to the single shot followers typical use as a stationary shell holder.  There is certainly a lot of speculation at this point on the round.

Perhaps someone reading this thread can help educate me as to whether or not using this type of follower in this capacity makes any sense?  My little pea brain gears are telling me that the concave nature of this follower could give me a a little more room in some of my 10 round 556 mags for my 458S that may allow me to squeeze one more round for hunting situations that have capcity restrictions.

Have they changed the twist rate? I thought it was going to be something ridiculously slow

An earlier information sheet released by Bushmaster listed the twist as 1:45".

1:24" sounds a lot more flexible. This makes it more competitive with a 1:18" .458 SOCOM. I think the SOCOM still has the edge, but with 1:24" the .450 Bushmaster is definitely more interesting than it was at 1:45".
