Hi.. I know this probably has been discussed to some length already, but how accurate exactly is the 16" AP4?

Is it easy to achieve 1 MOA with good ammo and a magnified optic?

Yes I've read the reviews online but I'd like to hear it from you people.

I have one and my PD has two.  They are accurate enough that we use them alongside the Remington 700's with equal results.  One of the marksman just switched from a Remington to the DPMS and his groups shrunk and his consistency improved.

We use Burris 4.5-14 Fullfield Tactical II scopes on all 3 of them.

The PD guns are as DPMS sent them out the door with the exception of Ace M4 SOCOM stocks.

Mine is tweaked a bit more with JP Enterprises adjustable low profile gas block, full length forearm, and rear tension pin as well as an ACE rifle stock.

We get sub MOA with Federal 168 BTHP and CAN get MOA with wolf 150 gr although there is no margin for error with the wolf.  I actually like shooting it as I find that if I can do everything right with the wolf to get small, consistent groups, then the match ammo is almost easy.  On my last outing I was able to get 4 shots into under an inch with fifth flyer that was all me.  The rounds were less than a 1/4 inch apart horizontally but just under the inch vertically.

Hope this helps.

My LR308AP4 grouped sub MOA with HSM 168gr match range ammo.   I've installed a Magpul PRS stock, a Leupold scope ( replaced a crappy simmons on crappier rings ) and now have the trigger pull down considerably ( thanks to whatnow ) I will soon see how it groups with M118LR and the same HSM ammo.  It can only get better with the dramatic quality upgrade in optics and trigger.    Just buy the danged thing and a bunch of mags.   If you're saving pennies for the rifle start stocking up on mags, sometimes they're tough to get.   So far I've managed to get 12 together.  10 are still sealed in the plastic wrap

On another forum a guy stated that he had an 18 that was better then his 24.. the lesson would be the extra length is less important then how lucky you are in getting a great barrel or a so-so barrel within the allowable variations of production.

I read another that studied the importance of length in 308.  this was on a police forum.  It concluded that you could go as short as 18" and only lose very small amounts of velosity.  As a result  the dept that sponsored the study opted for 18" barrels with a silencer as the best choice for thier sniper program.  As I recall this one was considering ranges up to 300 yards, So if you're wanting to shoot 1000 that little bit of lost velosity may matter

Thank you thank you so much for your help..

Wow so I guess the 16 incher is a really accurate little sucker.

I mostly plan on shooting 100/200 yard ranges, so the loss of velocity is not an issue to me.  Nor am I a professional shooter by any means, or certified in any way.  I plan on using it for recreational purposes, as well as the sole pride and personal discipline of ownership.

I just love guns, and I really like compact weapons like the AP4.
I also want an SBR eventually (5.56-.223 of course) but have never dealt with ATF/NFA/Title 2 ownership.

I was and still am very impressed with mine right out the box.  Don't have magnification, but attached an aimpoint and I can still get sub MOA at 100 yards.

Alright, I've confirmed my decision...

It's next on my list.. I'm gonna buy one!

But I have no experience with disassembling lower receiver assembly..
I want a JP adjustable trigger or similiar trigger upgrade in it.

The optic I don't know yet..
I'm thinking either Burris Extreme Tactical 4.5-14x or Leupold 2.5-8x, with the Larue scope mount.

just keep in mind its not a match barrel, its hit or miss.  less than 200yds, id think about a lesser caliber.

at the risk of getting flamed, WHY??  IMHO, the AP4 is the most appropriate .308 at these ranges, for "recreational" shooting purposes.  if you really want accuracy at  ranges over 100/200 yards, go with a bull barrel LR-308 or a bolt gun

.308 ammo is expensive.  the .223 is quite adequate out to 200yds, unless your trying to shoot through cover or take down a large critter.  but if you want to shoot .308 at those distances, yes a carbine is a good choice.

Has anyone done a SBR AP4?

If you got pic's or know of them please post or post a link.

Thanks.
