after my cmmg i'll be saving for an ar in 308. 2 questions , for someone of small and skinny stature should i stay with a 16'' bbl or will a 20'' still be easy enough to swing and hold on target? 2nd-i'm in a ban state(ny) and 20 round mags in a 308 ar have to be preban are expensive and hard to find. are any of the ar 308 mfgs a better choice? my only thought would be the rra lar10 . any thoughts?

If you are in a ban state and need preban mags, you should get an LAR-10 since it uses FAL mags.

while the RRA 308 is a nice concept especially for those in a ban state, their concept is flawed and is way behind schedule. I love RRA and they are  a great company, but the FAL mag 308 has been done tried and done before with no success.

I think a carbine will save you about a pound or so over a rifle, but will still be around 10 pounds loaded

if you check the equipment exchange you can find working preban armalite ar10 mags for around 25 dollars, and can verify with the seller to ensure they function.

the old ones will work in the new armalites? i thought they were using a new design.

there are three "AR10" mags

original 1960 mags
converted m14 mags mfg's durring the ban
2nd generation armalite mags made the begining of 2006

the first mags will not work with the new armalites, but both of the new mags will. the converted mags are the ones you can find for around 25 on the EE

there were some hack job converted ones that were the cause of problems durring the ban, but factory converted mags were gennerly ok,  at the end of the Ban i had 6 converted ones with no issues

I disagree.  I have a Bushmaster .308 and it has never had a problem.  I'm sure I speak for many others who have not experienced problems with their rifles using FAL mags.

Who/m is making .308 ARs with a Bushmaster logo, now?

And why not?

You could also condsider the cobb mcr 200 which takes HK91/G3 pre-ban mags and they are like a $1/each right now.

I had a 20" BAR-10 and it ran fine for awhile.  I started having problems with it and traded it in.  The main issues where FTF's and a broken bolt.  Bought new mags and still had problems.  And yes the extractor was fine.  Got a new bolt from bushy but lost confidence in the rifle.  RRA revoked their rights for a reason and their release date has continued to be postponed.  Now I have heard rumors of Armalite (confirmed by Steve on this site) sueing RRA for trademark enfringments.  Expect a much longer wait time.  I bought a LR-308 16" DPMS and love the damn thing.  Haven't had it long but no problems so far.    Accurate as hell too!

Due to lack of sales, Bushmaster discontinued the .308 line and gave it back to RRA.

I have four Bushmaster .308s, without any problems.

I have a bushy BAR-10.  I have had no problems what so ever with it.  It only has about 2k rounds through it, but I would trust it in any situation.  Its a great rifle with fantastic abilities (shoots much better than I do).  The only drawback is the weight, its quite hefty.  The 20 round mags are available here locally for $9.95 each new (http://www.the-armory.com/).  Its a great shooter.

In regards to my post above, my bushy had a very early serial number.  I believe it has been mentioned prior that the older serial numbers were the rifles with the issues.  The bolt problem was addressed by bushmaster and there is a considerable difference in appearance.  The old bolt has a notch on the end and this is where the breaking issues would occur.  Don't know where in the production process this was changed.  I know alot of people that have not had issues.  I was one of the unfortunate ones.

I have worked with the Bushmaster 308 and found it a little finekey with diffrent fal mags from diffrent countrys, it was accurate but very heavy. When I heard Bushmaster discontunied it I got worried about getting spare parts so I sold it. I love my DPMS 308, it feeds and functions better than the AR10s ive had or the Bushmaster I had.......AD

I think they take their own uppers but the barrel is the same as any other .308 including the bolt/extension.

I have a BAR-10 Carbine and I love it it feeds well with metric or Inch pattern mags.  I have run anything from Blackhills and GM 175 to 168gr to 147gr surplus stuff. The mags I got at a gunshow for 5 bucks a piece.  The weight is one of the drawbacks that I did see and I wanted to put a S.I.R. on it but i have been told it dos'nt fit on Bushys. Good Luck in your search.

I used to think the BAR-10 was heavy, till I got a DCM.

Now it feels like an airsoft.
