Got a new DPMS LR 308 and the manual says for cleaning remove the extractor and spring (do not remove the spring from the extractor)my spring was NOT attatched in any way what so ever to the extractor is this a type-o or do i have a bad extractor and spring? And check out what the manual says on the bottem of page 15 (quote)After firing ,clean your weapon FOR 3 CONSECUTIVE DAYS with rifle bore cleaner .This is got to be a type-o rite. Where is a good place to buy some QUALITY ammo . |

I don't know about the extractor and spring. The clean "3 consecutive days" drill dates back to the times when corrosive primers were used in battle rifle ammo. The common use of surplus ammo from various corners of the world makes this a smart thing to do. Modern cleaning agents do not work on corrosive priming salts (corrosive salts are water soluble but are not soluble in petroleum solvents). You need to find some old military bore cleaner, or use hot water/soap, or windex with ammonia for cleaning. Just be sure to get all the water out of the crevices so it doesn't rust (this is the only acceptable time to use WD40 on a firearm -- to displace water, not to clean or lubricate). |
