For those of you who have an AR47, could you post yor experience with your rifles?

Mine has worked like a champ. The only problem: I have broken 3 DPMS bolts so far, and the round count is not that high. I've been looking for a colt bolt, but no luck.

The only mod you have to do is file off the end of the bolt so the firing pin will extend a little farther to light off the wolf. I also had to take a little length off the feed lips of my mags. But with those little mods it runs like a top.

i got one in and together just the other day. To be honest i am no even dure what upper i have. The gun works great with any non-hallow point shells. I think this is an upper problem more than anything else (it does not shoot hollows well with reg mags and lower. Shoots wolf just fine no bolt mods other than what Mike does. A couple clips do not work but i can tell why (minor clip differences) and it is only a couple that i have. i could easily fix them with minor grinding and it would not stop them from working in my AK. IF you want an AR in 7.62 i think it is the best way to go.

I think you'll help your bolt breaking problems if you shoot brass ammo. I know my Model 1 7.62x39 shorty upper for my M16 had a little note saying to use brass.

I've been buying ammo from Vector, but they are out and I'm running low. I absolutlely FLOG my upper and haven't had any problems. I attribute that to using the brass.

YMMV?

Where can I get a muzzle break for the 7.62x39 upper (1/2x36 tpi threading), other than the Smith Enterprise 9mm version?

v188: I just saw Cheatah ammo on the web, but the price is much higher than the old Vector price - something like $230 for the 1440 round case. I'll try to find it again.

Found it at: http://www.floridagunworks.com/p-677.html

I have one also and love it....shoots 100% with Wolf FMJ. I did have to file a tiny amount off of the bolt tail to get more FP protrusion also.

Mine is now undergowing it's second face lift.

TheTic00 sold me some parts to finish this one off.....I'll be looking for more TDI stuff soon.

TheTic00,

Are there any mods to the lower or the mags with the AK74 setup? I assume the same mods to the carrier and the upper for the wider mags.

That would be very interesting...I keep looking for an excuse to setup a 5.45 AR.

Couple-a questions...

I see the "retail" price for an AR47 lower is $350. What's the actual price going through my dealer? Of course I understand his profit and fees will vary, but usually 10% over his cost is what he charges me, plus tax.

Also, HK Dude - What upper is that? DPMS?

If so, Del-Ton says that "rail slightly taller than A3 flat top". Have you noticed that to be true?

Do you think a lefty like me would have problems with the lack of a shell deflector?

THanks

When I ordered it a couple years ago and I think dealer was around $275

You need to use the slightly taller front sight post that DPMS also sells....I haven't actually sighted in the irons yet...I have always used the EOtech and just added the Irons.

You may...I need to pay more attention to where it ejects the empties.

The reason I went with the DPMS upper is that it has much thicker walls then a standard one. The guy that I ordered the lower from mentioned that the standard upper can/will flex with the mods. (this is no big deal I guess, but it would bug the shit out of me...I'm wierd that way) So I went this route.

Hope this helps......I also had them do the bolt carrier and upper mods for $75..it was well worth that to me. I can honsetly say that this is one of my favorit guns to shoot...and I have 7 ARs plus some others....it shoots 100% and I can hit anything I put the EOTech reticle on out to 100 yards.

I am currently changing it up again with a set of FAT cavalry Arms midlength handguards and a YHM folding front sight/gas block. With the slightly raised upper like you mentioned, I didn't like the fact that I couldn't put my EOtech a little further ahead to keep the rail more lined up on the railed handguards...I put the Handguards on one of my Bushy ARs now.......wow...that was a long story

Do you AR-47 owners find them to be more accurate than a decent AK (such as the Arsenal, Inc's SAM-7)?
Link Posted: 1/5/2006 7:05:00 PM EDT
The only decent AK I have owned was a few Vepr Ks......I haven't put this on paper, but just screwing around from the bench on dirt clods and clay pigeons, etc...it is deadly.

I really do need to throw a scope on it and see what it will do...not saying that is what I have it for, but it may be fun to check it out.

I notice that in that picture the mag release appears to be a relocated AR push button style mag release (in terms of how you activate it not necessarily how it acutally works) as opposed to the Paddle style (AK style) mag release of the AR47. Tell us more about that. Also, what are the current availability dates for the modular lower and hte AK mag well?

That much I can say.
But we will price it within reach of most people who would really want it.

I understand that the lower won't cost $125 like a stripped RRA, BUT will your new lower be priced competitively to the AR47 lower at $350 MSRP?

I know everyone seems to like their AR47 lowers, but I STILL have a very negative impression of "Special Weapons" from their HK products and the completely juvenile and unprofessional rants I used to read from the owner "Todd" directed at CavArms several years ago.

I really do want one of these...

Well, obviously I'm not V188, but I can tell you what it appears to be to me...

Upper is a 11.5" 7.62x39. Don't know what make, could be one of several.

Lower (the good part) is a full auto lower (see the sear pin above the safety?) of the "standard AR15" variety rather than an AR47 lower. Looks like KNS anti-walk pins on the side.

The mag is a DPMS "franken-mag" that is one of the few that will reliably feed 7.62x39 ammo into a standard AR15 magwell.

Basically, he could pop off that upper and replace it with a 5.56 upper and it would run just the same.

What's the usual bore diameter of the AR-15 7.62X39 barrels? 308 or 310 or 311? What do you think about Russian copper washed steel cased ammo? Are they similar to the green laquered steel cased ammo?
Thanks,

I don't know about "normal", but my Model 1 Sales 20" 7.62x39 upper has a .310" groove diameter with a 1-10" twist. Since most commercial 7.62x39 bullets are .310" diameter, this is ideal.
