I bought a Beowulf a few months back along with a 7-round magazine.  I've heard that standard .223 mags can be modified to work with the beowulf round.  I've also seen a couple of beowulf's posted here that look like they have molded (30-round) mags loaded in them.  Has anyone posted some basic instructions for modifying either aluminum or molded mags to work with the beowulf round?  I've got a ton of molded mags laying around.  Also, are there any dealers selling mags specific to the beowulf (beyond the 7-rounder, that is)?

Don't know if this is going to be helpful for you, but on my 458 socom upper, I use 7.62 x 39 mags.  Seems to position the round a little higher on the front of the mag, of course I can only get 4 in a 10 rnd mag, and 7 in a 20 rnd mag.

thermolds work flawlessly in the beouwulf.

get the us made ones though.

with the usgi mags you have to bend the feedlips out a little. compare it to your supplied mag and it should help.

Thermolds seem to work best for me also. Athough no problems with COLT and GI 30 rds, without changing the lip (green followers). Heck I even got cheap unmarked 40 rds to work with 14 of the big guys with the lip mod, green followers, and the springs tweaked.

The leitner wise ones are slick too.

+1 on the thermolds, no issues here either.

Thanks to everyone for the info.  I've got a big box of Orlites that I bought before the BIG BAN.  These things aren't even any good for .223's.  Time to buy some new mags.

Do you guys know of any good sources for thermolds?

I just bought a Beowulf and a few GI mags with the intention of modifying them, but if the thermolds work I think I will just use the GI mags in my other AR's.

Watch the EE, they come up every once in a while.

I actually tried loading some of them to see if they'd work.  Two problems; older style Orlites have a support rib running across the middle of them that won't allow the magazine to seat properly in some AR receivers.  You can either modify the receiver (which I'd rather not do) or modify the magazine's rib.  But then there's problem two ... which is that when I tried loading some beowulf rounds, I found that the crown that holds the follower in place will flex just enough to allow the round to pop out of the magazine.  A few of the magazines did hold the round in place, but I'd rather not take a chance on a mis-feed (or worse?) while firing.

Anyways, thanks to all for the input ... it was very helpful.

One more vote to just try the USGI 30's.  Mine hasn't paused a bit with them.  I haven't modified them at all.  I have been waiting on a malfunction, but haven't had one yet.  Of course I have only run about 200 rds thru the USGI's, so maybe I need to shoot some more.
