Stupid question of the day: I replaced the trigger on my DPMS 308LR with an aftermarket 2 stage. I function checked it, no problems at all until I tried live ammo. I couldn't get a single round to touch off, Port, S. African, Fed GM or Hornady. I put a med weight Wolff hammer spring in, and got about a 75% reliable ignition. I put the original hammer spring back in, and it fires 100% reliably, but the pull is back to ridiculously heavy for a dedicated long range rifle. (around 8.5 lbs) Any ideas, or should I just start doing some finger calesthenics? I've thought about lightening the hammer by removing some material, but need the experts' opinions before I break out the dremel. Thanks! |

So two stage trigger can have problems? Has someone experience with Jard single stage trigger or JP adjustable trigger assembly? Those are also mentioned in DPMS shopping pages as upgrades. What do you think, if I purchise a DPMS 308 should I just buy the rifle with standard trigger and possibly upgrade later, or order a gun with upgraded trigger? And if upgraded, what trigger? Ossi |
I would order with an upgraded trigger because from the little I've read, the standard trigger just doesn't cut it. Don't know enough about the DPMS to suggest which upgraded trigger however. 5sub |

The DPMS 308 uses the standard AR15 tigger parts, so any of them should work. When I upgraded my 308, I later used the old trigger in a AR15 lower I was building. I heard about a new modular wonder trigger, either 2 stage or single, from Chip McCormick coming soon, but don't have details yet. It is preassembled and you jsut drop it in and use the poins to hold it in, no messing around with springs. My coworkers went to the Shot show and saw it, they are waiting for it anxiously. |
.............So long that I ordered and received another fucking rifle while I have been waiting for it. 6 weeks?I called my FFL and told him to cancel the order. He called....................then he got back to me and said he could not cancel the order since it was in the mail. Did you get a tracking number? I asked. That was last week Friday. Still no rifle. In the mail my ass. They already fucked me by advertising it as "in stock". |

I'll put it this way. I ordered it in person at the SHOT Show in February. I did ask for a couple specific extras, and there were some complications. Apparently they've had some trouble waiting on certain parts, but that is supposed to be cleared up now. I'm hoping to have it in my hands next week. |
Wow, and Im bitching about a month and a half...............going on 2 months. I hope you see it soon. |

I found a dealer called R&R Arms up in Minnesota who advertised them as being in stock. The price was good so I called & confirmed they had it, gave them my credit card number & it took about a week to get here to Oklahoma City. Haven't shot it yet but hope to soon. My only problem was the cracked POS magazine. Oh it was shipped in a plastic hard case with two mags a cleaning kit, sling & paperwork. Good shooting Bushwack |
| I ordered my LR-308 through a local FFL...DPMS told him 4-8 weeks(closer to 8 they said)but then after 2 weeks they emailed him and said it was shipped. It arrived three days later!Looks great..trigger is ok but not great....mags suck! Will get out and test it next week if the Lords willing and the creek stays down! |

Picked up my LR-308 this weekend. Mounted the 6-24x40mm 4200 Elite on it. It was dry as a fart so I lubed all the parts including the trigger group. Sighted it in and tried some shorter range groups. I could touch bullets at 50yrds. The Leupold QRW rings I used loosened up and I lost zero. I was a bit frustrated untill I found out the issue and remedied it. I swabbed the bore with copper solvant and dry patch between each shot for the first several shots, then I went to once every 2 shots and then to once every three shots. Ran about a box of Federal Match 168gr through it. Not one malfunction. I never put more than 3 rounds in the magazine. I won't talk about the mags because it has been hashed over enough. The trigger is horrible. Not in a "im a all-knowing rifleman and I know good tiggers and I'm super picky". No, it sucks by any standard. The stock trigger in my Bushy and DPMS AR lowers are way better. It's the worst trigger I ever felt on a AR. Period. Tons of creep. That will get replaced soon. Another dissapointment is that they sent a swivel stud for the forearm but the forearm is not drilled and tapped. Some of the machineing on the bolt is questionable. Anyway the trigger sucks. Other than that, I think it will be a fine rifle. |

The tube is not predrill for the swivel as it could be different with each gun. The tube locks to the barrel nut and the barrel nut may stop different with each gun. When you get ready to drill your tube make sure it is good and tight before you mark and drill your hole or it will not be in the right place. |
Colt did'nt have a problem doing it on the CR6724 or Armalite with the AR-10T. Does DPMS use a different method? |
|
Yes, the Armalite FF tube is held in place by a separate lock ring and the tube has a pin that pins to the barrel nut. I do not know about the Colt but it is probably similar. I put an Armalite FF tube on my Colt preban, using Armalite barrel nut as well. There is no way to insure that the tube will index right when it screws directly to the barrel nut. The only what for them to have done it is to do it separate for each gun after the barrel nut is torqued down. |
