Giessle? KdG? KAC? DD? Looking for something slim and light weight

Update: so i think i should define what im building. Its a 14.5 do it all gun. I have a lwrc pistol i like but i want something a little longer and with a stock. It will be having a light, ir laser, and most likely a hand stop along with a sling. I want it slim but strong for maintaining zero with nv devices

Ive narrowed it to a couple:

-Geissle mk8
-Hodge wedge lock
-BCM MCMR

Thoughts on these?

Geissele MK14 is my current favorite if you can dish out the $$$$. next to that in a cheaper price bracket I'd do ALG, Midwest Industries or UTG Pro. Haven't been able to try out V7 Weapon Systems Hyperlight rail yet but they are extremely light for their size.

Probably not the best, but I love Midwest Industries rails.

best is subjective

most use the same materials
most have the major styles
most look, function, and provide the same modulaity and usage
pricing is a result of many things, units sold, set up, suppliers etc etc etc  oh and marketing/brand name

to be honest, you could pick 20 and they'd all do the same thing so pick one you like/appearance as the functionality is virtually the same

If you are on a budget STNGR. They have three different styles in three lengths. Both Keymod and MLOK. And they are US veteran owned.

Mine is the VYPR model. It runs right around a $100. Running a Geisselle gas block under it.

Geissele mk14 or a Mk16 if they ever decide to sell it separately.  I use a mk14 and love it.

+1, CMR MLOK. Currently working on a build with this rail with a ARPerformance 16" 5r Scout barrel and it's incredibly light and maneuverable.

I love my G MK8 also but it's a 9.5" on a 10.3 SBR.

Ironically I just installed a UTG pro slim 13.5 on a new build.
It’s really solid, slim, and lightweight. I really like it

Faxon makes a carbon fiber one.  I have the 15" version and it's fantastic.

When I had a BCM Magnesium handguard and a UTG Pro slimline side by side on two of my rifles I actually preferred the UTG.

KAC and G rails have been fantastic for me.

KACs center on the barrel better than any rail I have ever used, but are quirky with traditional gas systems.

G rails are as rigid as KAC, easier to use on standard gas systems, but don’t seem to center up as well on barrels as KAC.

Everything else I’ve tried has a ton of shifting or deflection when any decent amount or pressure is placed on the rail.  Some return to their original position better than others.

If your UTG rail was priced at $500 it would be considered the ''best rail'' made among AR enthusiasts.

Average AR owner: ''When I go into make believe battle this weekend I need the highest end stuff to keep my AR reliable''.

They are one of the best. I have used Midwest Industries handguards since 2008. I have used several of their M-LOK handguards in recent years including the latest being their new Combat Rail one piece free float handguard, M-LOK(TM) compatible (MI-CRM14). For $189, it is very compatible with more expensive handguards. The one pictured is a 14" version. They do not offer a 13.5" version.

Another option is the Helix handguard from SLR Rifleworks. They offer a 13.7" version. The one I used is their 11.7" version.

MI is having an end of year "blowout" you may want to check out. Their gear always seemed reasonably priced to me, so at discount it should be even better.

I have no clue what is the best. I havn't inspected or handled them all. I expect that it's relative. I have purchased a couple brands. A couple STNGR, RPTRs, an 8.25" and a 15" and a Midwest lightweight 15". I would recommend both brands without reservation.

ALG EMRV3 is a good option, doesn't come in 13.5, but there is a 13 inch model.

I hope many of you realize that the decreased weight of a ff rail comes at a cost.  You won't get serious real world use out of many of these rails because they are soft metal.  Price and weight doesn't make the best so let's be objective guys.  If you think something is the best, not because you own it, but why and how?

I just put this exact handguard on my colt 6920.
Relatively light weight and I have no worries about how it locks up to the barrel nut/upper.
I have two other rifles with DD ris ii rails which are considered bombproof by many and I love the alg. No worries about it’s strength.
It’s so nice going from the pig which is my colt socom II with a lpvo and old surefire 951 to my 6920 with the alg and a exps2-2

When in doubt, #GeisseleAllTheThings.

As for what the actual "best" is, that's very usage specific. I have a DD Omega 7.0 on my M4gery because it's the best for that gun. I'll be putting a V Seven magnesium hyperlight on my lightweight SBR because that's the best there. I have an ALG V0-E on my precision/competition upper I'm building because I want it to ride bags well and don't have any accessories to go on it, and it's cheap. I have an SLR Helix on a rifle I'm building for a friend, because 15" handguard for sight radius with irons (first rifle), and it's nice and lightweight (small stature shooter) while offering a better price than the V-Seven lineup.

Gear is use specific. Define your use, and we can then define what the best for that is likely to be.

Geissele makes incredible rails. If you need to save a little money, you could always look at ALG. It's their sister company. Very high quality stuff.

If you really want to get slim and lightweight though, look at V7. They're expensive, but they're cutting edge on the lightweight front while still maintaining great rigidity.
