So, I finally had a couple SBR's approved and went to mate one of my uppers to the lower.

I'm trying to drop a Rainier Arms forged upper onto an Essential Arms lower.

Unfortunately, the holes just don't match - It's definitely the upper...It just is what it is.

So, I've come to the conclusion that I need to drill out the hole.

The rear hole aligns perfectly when it's locked in, it's stupid tight but, there's no resistance on the bolt so, I was going to drill out the front hole a bit.

I don't want to redneck it too bad, should I start with a sanding wheel and the dremel? Or just go at it?

Anyone have experience with this? It's actually off by a legit sixteenth.

Thanks

A friend of mine drilled his out when faced with the same problem.

I'd send the upper back if possible.

Not possible.

Purchased well over 9 months ago - Sat in a box until I got the stamps and put everything together, yesterday.

As long as I just go horizontal, I can't imagine why there would be any issues, especially considering how tight the rear is...

Anyone else?

I would find a machine shop with a milling machine and have them jig it up and mill the front of the hole. Otherwise it is going to look like bubba got ahold of it and if you ever would want to sell it who is going to buy bubba upper.

I don't plan on ever selling it...

But, I do like the jig idea.

Fit the 3 dollar pin to the hole. The last 1/4" can stay full size it never enters the upper lug.

Look behind the upper front lug on the upper and make sure there is not a slightly raised area the width of the lug holding the upper to high when it closes.

Why not post in the industry thread on the Rainier page and see what they have to say.  Their Customer Service is phenomenal!

I don't know about that. They failed to answer what I thought was a simple question about a service they perform. Spent my money elsewhere bc of it.

You won't have any trouble.  You'd be removing the surface hardening and anodizing, but it's not a high wear area anyway.
