| For those that have them, what's your take so far? I'm just curious on what keeps the rail from rotating other than clamp friction. I'm assuming Fortis did their homework on this.. Haven't really read much on the rail. |

It's insanely lite for how well it's constructed, SKINNY is an under statement for the girth of this rail. It is most excellent, I've owned the 13 and 15.5" Rainier branded versions of it. One thing to consider is your hand placement on the rail as to the gas block, because your not mounting anything under the gas block on this rail it's just too skinny.
ETA: Not my rifle but I inquired about this rail and this guy explained in pitchers.......... scan over a few pages for close ups of the gas block to rail

| I wanted one for a 4.5" .22LR suppressed build, figured it would be cool to cover the suppressor but come off easy if the suppressor mount gets stuck on the barrel. Unfortunately it's not looking like they make the 7"-8" length I need for that. If I can find the right length I'll give it a shot probably. |

What's keeping the rail from rotating? Mine locks over the barrel nut which has the toothed edges it grabs onto Just looked there are slots the toothed part locks into and clamps over. There is no way to rotate if the clamp is locked down. You would need to have a standard barrel nut with the toothed end which I think is noted on the switch rail specs |

Quoted: The switch comes with a smooth barrel nut. That's the reason I'm asking what keeps it from rotating other than friction alone. It has tabs that go over the upper and hold it straight with the receiver doesn't it? It's been a while since I looked at them but I'm pretty sure it did. |

From what google tells me, because I can look things up, the Switch seems to rely on friction alone to avoid rotation with the AR15 platform. With the 308 version, they sell the rail with a friction barrel nut, which doesn't require timing, but they also make an anti-rotation barrel nut that requires shims to time correctly, and is sold separately for about $25. |

Yeah you're right, had to look myself. That's a little disappointing, I hate the idea of not having anti rotation tabs, although it's unlikely to cause issues. |

I have a couple of these, as I love a skinny rail and they have such a smooth texture so it feels great to me. I just finished a rifle course this past weekend where I put about 1400 rounds through it in a couple days. I was pretty rough with it through all the different drills and the rail didn't budge. It seems to lockup very well. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these.
I just got one of the SLR helix rails to test out and off hand I'm really liking how it feels also. |
