I have a Oly Arms K16 with the solid free float tube. Problem is, the handguard gets to hot to handle when dumping 2 or 3 mags rather quickly. I've been looking at ventilated handguards and the Hogue over molded hand guard. Will this solve my problem or must I get a vertical grip? I really don't care for the vertical grips but in a SHTF scenario a person may need to dump 100 rounds or more. What's the best way to deal with the heat?
thanks, swampie |

The rifle is free floated, bull-barreled, non-chrome lined, probably for varmint or target use. Why are you mag dumping it?
If you aren't using the rifle for intended purpose, sell the rifle or the upper, and get a more appropriate upper or rifle. You don't have a rifle or hand guard problem. |

Paracord wrap sounds fine but I'd also like a rail. So how about those ventilated handguards? swampie It helps if you give us the WHOLE story when you ask a question. In my experience, just about any handguard gets hot when you mag dump, and paracord is the only good solution I have found. If you just want to mount a BUIS or flashlight, you can buy a short section of rail and bolt it to your FF tube, then paracord the rest. Feel free to spend lots of $$$ on a rail system if that's what you are determined to do, but whichever you choose I guarantee it will still get hot. |
