Due to department requirements on personal owned patrol rifles, must be Colt or Bushmaster, I need a new lower receiver. I have been out of builds for a few years, so I am not up to speed on some of the new parts. When I searched for Bushmaster lowers, the XM-15 has been the cheapest out there. Now don't get me wrong, my life could depend on this weapon, but if the XM-15 is good quality, then I would like to build up the lower with my current parts. Anyone have any experience with this lower?

Not really experience with building with this lower, but I bought my boys a pair of Bushmasters and both have the XM-15 lower, they look as good as any of my others.

My very first AR was a Bushmaster XM15.

This was back before the split, though.

Perfectly fine.  I'm sure I will get flamed but a "high end" AR is an oxymoron.

Are you just going to swap your existing lower for a stripped Bushmaster lower or are you trying to buy a complete lower?  Bushmaster flooded the market with stripped lowers a while back for a good price and I picked one up.  The lower is good quality and seems on par with any other forged lower that I've handled.  I didn't have any issues assembling it with a PSA lower parts kit.

Yes, my plan is to strip my current lower and build it back on the Bushmaster lower.

I have four guns on Bushmaster lowers. Two I have owned for over 15 years, the other two for about 5-6 years. They have been excellent in all manners. Everything works like it should, I've replaced triggers to upgrade, stocks and buffer tubes etc....and never had any "specification" issues etc...

I completely agree. My current rifle was just built in the DPMS lower. All of the remaining hardware is, what I call high end. Lol
New department rule require Colt or Bushmaster, so as long as the lower is marked as such, I should be good to go with a nice rifle.

I have 2 and the newer one won't drop mags and the bolt doesn't always hold open on the last round. If you life depends on it, be sure to run some rounds through it.

What kind of budget are you on? Try looking into a Colt 6920 OEM rifle. Just need to add your own stock, trigger guard, handguard & sight and you're good to go.

Not worth removing a complete LKP and moving it to another lower.  Sell your complete lower and buy new parts for the new lower.

You like DPMS? You'll like Bushmaster.

Not the same company as the original Bushmaster. Departments need to catch up.
