I'm building my first AR and have decided to go with flip up MBUS sights and a red dot optic. The upper is a mid length PSA Freedom. My understanding is that I will need to remove the A2 on the front and replace it with a low pro gas block. I have also ordered a 9" drop in quad rail. I chose a drop in because of the lack of tools/ease of install. My question is will the gas block be exposed at the end of the rails? If it is exposed what are my options to cover it? Thanks.

Just keep the A2 sight as is. It won't interfere with your optic

Keep the standard FSB.

AFAIK there is no way to cover a low profile gas block without using a free float handguard.

I see. I liked the look without it but as long as it isn't going to interfere with anything I suppose I can leave it on there. Thanks for the responses. Guess that saves me some money haha

I like the look of the FSB. All my ARs have them. If you are handy with a Dremmel, you can shave down the FS and cut off the delta ring and install a rail. I think MI and Centurian as well as others make a rail to fit the standard barrel but.
