Hello out there, I have heard some conflicting stories about gas rings. Some say when you reassemble after cleaning you should align the spacers on the rings or (void for lack of a better word.) Others say they should not be aligned due to it sealing off the gas.

Anyone out there help shed some light on this. I'm new to this and am learning on the fly.

Not aligned

Rslistically it does not matter.  Many guns will cycle even without having all 3 rings intalled. (All depending on good gas port alignment and cleanliness)

I don't typically pay too much attention to it but I do try to be sure they are in good condition and slightly staggered for gap.

If you aligned them perfectly, how long do you think they will stay that way?

It's common practice for many because the military teaches it (not aligned), but it's completely irrelevant.

About as much chance as getting triple 7's on a slot machine.

They move around.

It was beat into my head in the military to have them staggered. If they move or not is irrelevant. They always start out at the 4, 8 and 12 o'clock positions.
