For 10 years during the federal assault weapons ban, all carbines came with rifle stocks.

I had a 11.5" barrel (5.5" flash hider) with an A2 stock for a while. Worked fine. Most people want heavier buffers... a rifle buffer is the grand daddy of them all.

I find your lack of faith disturbing....

However, If you have that much concern, check the buffer and main action spring to ensure the correct ones are being used.  If the lower is assembled correctly, and with the correct parts, there will be no functional issues.

I would make sure he has a rifle buffer and spring, if he does it should work. I have used an A1 stock on a middy and it worked fine.

You'll be fine OP. I'm running a cheaply built plinker carbine(5.56 unlined chamber) w/A2 RRA stock kit right now. Absolutely no problems.
