| Looking for recommendations on a long DPMS high rail handguard with a positive locking alignment feature, similar to the discontinued Daniel Defense 7.62 Lite Rail. |

I don't know if this will help you but here goes ...
I've been building an LR308 using a DPMS AP4 carbine barrel. I bought this barrel from JSE Surplus. The item description stated this barrel assembly used a special barrel nut that "allowed the use of AR15 style hand guards". When completing assembly it became obvious that the MAGPUL carbine hand guards for the AR15 was NOT going on the weapon without modification. Not wanting to start butchering the brand new MAGPUL hand guards I researched and found that DPMS used a plastic round hand guard called their "GLACIER" hand guards that were original equipment on their LR308 AP4 carbine. I'm sure the same thing is available for their AR15(s). The GLACIER hand guards does not use a metal heat shield but uses plastic ribs throughout the inside length of the hand guards. I have yet to see how well this design works. I've since purchased a set of these yet however they will not quite go on. I'm going to have to get the DREMEL out and do a minor amount of grinding. I stress here these are ALMOST a perfect fit but something at the end that goes in to the delta ring assembly won't make the connection by about 1/8" - 1/4". The hand guard set I purchased is a matched set and appears to be new with no factory issues. The easiest method for a hand guard on LR308 platform rifles appears to be with free floating rails however I do not like these or at least care to use them with this particular build. Again, I don't know if this information will help you but if not then maybe by posting it here it will help somebody else. What I am looking for now is a set of ArmaLite GREEN mid-length hand guards for an ArmaLite AR10 and the green grip and A2 buttstock assembly. Can anyone here help me out with this? |
| The DD lite rail doesn't really have any locking locking feature other than friction between the clamping ring and barrel nut. The locking ring has a hole for the gas tube that is a tight fit so I guess that could be considered a positive locking feature. I had the DD lite on my AR10 and ended up going with the SLR rifle works rail to lighten it up. They use an insert that goes around the gas tube and fits into the rail so can't turn. Both use friction and the gas tube to stop them from turning. |
