Assuming the BCG fits, headspaces, and functions 100%, does it have any influence on accuracy?

I have a new upper and new BCG (both PSA). The BCG was very tight and I had to use more force than usual to get the BCG to lock in. But, it functions 100% with zero issues and has smoothed out with shooting.

Accuracy with this upper is unusually bad compared to all my other rifles and I'm trying to change out parts to diagnose Maybe the barrel is just a dog...

i'd make sure the barrel is tight, and then true it to make sure it's on as perfectly straight as possible. PSA is somewhat known for having loose barrels from what i've read here.

if anything i'd guess a tighter BCG to the chamber would improve accuracy, although i doubt there's any huge difference.

Aye, what he said.  Doubt there's anything to do with accuracy, assuming everything is in spec.

This was probably just Tight gas rings.. assuming you weren't having to beat on the FA to close the bolt..

As the poster above stated check the barrel nut. A friend has a DPMS sportical that would pattern like a shotgun out of the box. I pulled the HG and found I could move the barrel nut by hand until the gas tube stopped it No shit the barrel nut was just snug when indxed for the gas tube and they sent it out like this! Without over torqueing the barrel nut it wasn't going to index properly. So, I added a barrel shim, torqued the nut to about 60ftlbs and it indexed... I'll be damed if it didn't shoot like a rifle afterwards

It shouldn't, if it does there is something odd going on.

Thanks for the replies. The barrel seems tight in the upper with no play at least using hand pressure. But I have no tools, etc to check. I have never built an upper.

And, to add to the mystery, the upper has one favorite load that it shoots well (best 5 shot, 100 yard group of .80" with numerous other sub MOA groups with that ONE load). And it likes Federal XM193 giving me under 1.5MOA!  Meanwhile, all other known accurate loads such as Black Hills 77gr suck.

My factory stock LMT is like that. At 100 yards, it does self defense levels of accuracy with 62gr TSX and downright ugly groups with 75+gr stuff. Hornady TAP was more like CRAP on Sunday. Then I load up some Wolf Gold and it makes neat, tidy little groups. Granted, it had been some time since I shot last so I was rusty so I am partly to blame but in the past it has proven to just love the Wolf. I'm not complaining for the price, FWIW.

It's not all that uncommon for barrels to like a certain load.  What twist rate is your barrel?  Do you reload?  Have you tried any other loads (you say BH 77gr, you tried FGMM,  etc.)?

Bolts can and sometimes do affect accuracy.

True, but carriers don't.

I had a 308 AR that suddenly started grouping very poorly (4"-6" at 100 yards).  I literally replaced every other part except the BCG one piece at a time because I didn't think it could possibly be the culprit.  Then a friend handed me the BCG out of his LaRue at the range and the groups immediately shrunk back to sub MOA.  I still don't know exactly what the exact issue was, but it was definitely something in the BCG.
