I was just in my room attempting to swap my uppers on my colt and S&W ar 15 when I noticed my Colt requires a screw driver for one of the take down pins. As I was making sure the Colt was empty and clear I couldn't help but notice how amazingly smooth the trigger pull was. I mean it was like butter compared to my S&W.
My question is does Colt sell trigger groups and if they do can I get one exactly like the one in my current ar? According to the serial number on my Colt it is a pre ban one and I' surprised just how smooth the rifle is for its age. My S&W trigger feels 2 or 3 times as hard to get the hammer to fall and now I hate it. lol |

I have a S&W M&P 15 lower on a custom build. Originally it had the S&W trigger group. I now have an SSA-E for precision shooting. But, I keep the M&P parts for spares because this was an unusually smooth milspec trigger from the factory. There will be variation in samples, even off of the same production run, and some triggers will be smoother than others. And, given time and use, they all will usually get better.
You have a sample of one from each manufacturer, and one has been used a great deal more than the other. I am unable to draw a valid conclusion. I can say that I will be hanging on to my M&P trigger group. it is not for sale. FWIW, if you want to go out and buy a trigger group, get a Geissele. Now THAT is smooth. |

I wasn't sure if trigger's became softer or require less pull over time but it would make sense that they do. My S&W has a little over 100 rounds through it and who knows how many are through my Colt. I'll look into Geissele, thanks. |
