I recently switched over to the world of keymod with a Daniel Defense Slim Rail. The switch feels great after using railed fore ends for years, but it leaves behind a lot of accessories i have on my old upper. I did a little searching for a keymod handstop but i couldn't justify buying a new handstop for $40 plus, when i have a brand new magpul XTM handstop sitting on my old upper. I decided to modify the XTM rather than buying a rail section to mount it on, which would add a larger gap between rail and hand stop. It came out perfect, absolutely zero wiggle, rock steady and looks OEM. Heres how i did it below
NEEDED: XTM Handstop Soldering iron Magpul Screw and T washer (from MOE rail section) http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah307/Branson_MP/IMG_0001_zps6d262fec.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah307/Branson_MP/IMG_0003_zpsa7607cf1.jpg Step 1: Fig A.) disassemble handstop Fig b.) mark where the screws going through with a sharpie. *you want the head of the screw in the open cavity, mark the center above this cavity to cut* http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah307/Branson_MP/IMG_0004_2_zpsfd37e644.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah307/Branson_MP/IMG_0009_zpsd2cf3ec6.jpg |

Steo 2:
Fig A.) Melt pastic from handstop using a soldering iron, only melt enough for 1/2 the diameter of the screw to fit in the half *use appropriate ventilation, melting plastic produces harmful smoke* Fig B.) Repeat on second half, assemble two halves to make sure the holes match. Go slow, if the holes too big and the screw wobbles your S.O.L. Fig C.) Insert screw into the hole you cut in your handstop and assemble. Check to see that the two halves come together tight and theres no wiggle in the screw. Melt away more material if necessary http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah307/Branson_MP/IMG_0010_zps6120466f.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah307/Branson_MP/IMG_0011_zpsc174439c.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah307/Branson_MP/IMG_0013_zpsbd7e82c0.jpg http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah307/Branson_MP/IMG_0014_zps949edab8.jpg Step 3: Fig A.) since you cant access the head of the screw with the hands assembled, you have to insert the washer and screw the allen screw in until the height matches the height of the screw cutout. Adjust screw height till assembled bandstop fits tight with no wiggle. Fig b.) Assemble handstop with all hardware onto your rail. Fig C.)
