Sorry if this is post seems a bit lazy, but I've been playing on the AK side for a while so I'm not really current on AR accessories. I'm looking to replace the drop-in rail on one of my rifles with a FF rail. I don't want to remove the FSB so it needs to be a two-piece unit. I'd prefer to ditch the delta ring for aesthetic reasons, so the DD Omega is out, and I don't really want to spend $250+ since my attention (and $$$) is focused on another build. I've looked at the MI offering but I wanted to check with the hive to see if there are any other options I should consider. Carbine length, specifically.
What say you? |

I have a Midwest Industries Gen2 two piece free float quad rail that I am extremely satisfied with. I chopped my FSB so I could go with the 12.5" version but they do have a carbine model that should fit your needs. It does require removing the delta ring which is a breeze with a Dremel and a reinforced cut-off wheel...literally a 5 min job. There's no need to switch barrel nuts which makes the install much easier. My quad rail is VERY solid. It barely moves no matter how much pressure you put on it and springs right back into place when the pressure is removed. The fit and finish is great.
One option you may want to consider if you like longer rails but don't want to remove or chop your FSB is their extended carbine model. I think it looks much better than a standard carbine length rail and will give you more mounting options further out.

just make sure you pay attention to weight. I prefer all the negative space attachment rails like keymod and m-lok.
Just cut the delta ring, a dremel with a cutting wheel from harbor freight is all you need. Make a cut on each side and clip the spring with angle pliers. Very easy and quick to do. |
