I have to magpul acs  stocks, on mil spec extensions and even with the stock locked their is a bit of play, looking for a an extension that these will fit on tightly, one will be a 308 and eventually I will switch over to the extended armalite extension, spring and 308 buffer, but the 556 gun needs a quality extension.

my question is this, which one and why ? vltor, bcm, dsa  or ???

They'll all have a little play.

They all vary in OD. The AR is not a precisely crafted platform and tolerances are loose so that parts can easily be exchanged between decades worth of production guns.

LMT/B5 Enhanced SOPMOD is the stock you're looking for.

This it has to have room to move otherwise you build pressure or pull vacuum.

My CTR has a little play, the B5 sopmod is tighter, and the VLTOR Imod is the tightest. All are milspec.

Both of my commercial extensions have a little play. My mil specs hardly have any at all, esp my BCM extension with MOE stock. Almost none whatsoever, which is why I never even bought a CTR

I did see an lmt sopmod on an lmt tube and it was tight as fuck,  I though the friction lock was supposed to take the play out of the stock ?  and lastly if they all have a little play then why pay 50+ for an extension when a 14 dollar one will have the same amount of play ?

The buffer tubes I have used; BCM, Stag, LMT, Larue, Vltor and LWRC, are all excellent. Some stocks fit tighter then others, just the way it is. If you want no play, go fixed.

I'd love to see where you found a $14 7075-T6 buffer tube.

A site Industry Partner by the name of "Damage Industries" had their 7075-T6 receiver-extensions for 30% off recently (Labor Day Sale).  Brought the price down to approx. $14.60 per, if my math was correct at the time.  It was even cheaper than their "blem" RE (approx. $16.00 per for a 7075-T6 RE).  Good luck.
