Have this Colt SP1 a friend bought new in early 70's. It's may be unfired but it's in like new condition. I see a lot of guns in the 80's on gunbroker or with round hand guards  marked SP1 selling for high prices. I know these bring a premium but anyone know a current value?

Nowadays a good condition SP1 made in the 1970s or 80s should go for between $900 - $1100.

Sounds about right to me.  A little more, or a little less depending on a variety of things.  No matter how you slice it, the SP1 is an old gun of which there were boat loads made.  They shouldn't be overly expensive unless you are playing the "AWB state" game.

Interest in these has REALLY increased!

Hell 15 years ago people were trying to sell these at gun shows for $400 and couldn't find and takers.

That is very hard to beleive, pre ban lowers were selling for double that during the ban.

The older guns are passing 50, so are C&R eligible and will become increasingly desirable for that fact alone.
