heavy bastards. most are good shooters with quality ammo. probably a 1-9 twist. if ya don't handload look to a blackhills or ultramax 52-53 gr. target load.

I've had good accuracy with DPMS barrels. they are a lower price pointed item. Then again I handload for my stuff.
24 inch bull's are just to heavy/bulky for my needs.

this is a fluted 24" DPMS in 204. it shot very well. It's just to much weight to lug around. I've built a 204 off a wilson combat 18'' barrel since.

the 18" wilson build is more user friendly so to speak. I lost about 220 fps in my handloads with the shorter barrel.

I do load, so will figure out what it likes.  Initially shooting factory stuff, mostly to break in and acquire brass.  You are correct about being heavy, my old US Made T-16 is not helping the weight.  I am hoping the 24 inch barrel will give enough velocity to stabilize 77 grain hornady or sierras.  Will look at bullets in the 55 grain range for Coyotes and other varmits.

A 69 gr. SMK over varget or RL15 is a good start for longer range stuff. whats the twist 1-8 or 1-9?

Don't let anyone bullshit ya. The 69 SMK is fine on yotes/varmints. Alot of varmint guys say the jacket is to thick.......not so in my varmint work.

Made another trip to the range today with the DPMS.  Best group at 100 fit under a quarter.  At 200 shot one triangle 1.5 inch high 3/4 wide, a second triangle group was  almost covered by a quarter with about a eighth of a hole showing and third linear group  angled left about 3/8 inch from vertical was 1 inch high and the center round only one bullet diameter out of being on the straight line.  Figured that is pretty good using Red Box American Eagle 55 grain cheap as you can find factory ammo.
