[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Barrel Question

I bought an upper off a friend and it has a stainless Saber Defense barrel. I am new to AR's and I can not find anything stamped on it indicating if it is a 223 barrel or a 556. Is there another way to tell?

I didn't think Sabre made stainless barrels?

And the few Sabre barrels I've seen have been marked somehow. Have you looked under the handguards?

Maybe it's been re-barreled sometime in the past?

Anyway, a gunsmith should have the correct gauges to tell you which chamber it has.

There used to be some Sabre surplus barrels at Midway or Brownells unfinished in the white. I wonder?? Be careful as you could potentially have an unfinished barrel that looks stainless and rusts like crazy. Or not just putting it out there.
