I recently got an AR with the standard A2 front sight/gas block. Flat top upper.
I wanted to open up my options for optics so I ordered an adjustable low profile gas block w/ rail. Then I start thinking..... Oops. I have the Magpul MOE fore grip. Well this means I need a new fore grip if I switch to the low profile gas block. Can't switch gas blocks with a drop in grip. So I need to look at a free float system now. There are two things I would like to accomplish here.... 1 - the obvious... Free float setup 2 - the front groove for the original gas block in the barrel will be visible with a carbine length grip. What can I get to cover this? I don't want a gas tube grip but then again, not sure I want a full 4 rail grip. So..... Recommendations? Thanks all! |

First, welcome to AR15.com. Second I assume you mean "handguard" or "forend". Foregrip usually is used describe a vertical or angled grip that attaches to the handguard.
What you want is keymod rail. Theres other manufacturers that produce keymod rails as well. Keymods are nice because the shed the weight of the picatinny rails but still give you the option of mounting the rails where you see fit. If you want the handguard to cover up the gas block, you should go with a 10" or longer depending on the length of the barrel and assuming its a carbine gas system. Youll also need a barrel nut that will be compatible with the handguard you get. |

That's the info I was looking for. I have been shopping hand guards but none seem to come with the barrel nut...unless that is automatic and why they may not list it.
If they do then maybe I just need to call on the ones I am interested in and verify before ordering. Thank for the info! |
| well from what i been finding the guards that come with the nuts are the ones that have a proprietary mounting to it. like if they have to screw on they should be coming with one. the sampson keymod evolution i got uses the stock nut and uses some bushings and slides on top of that. |
