Looking at ordering the aim surplus 79.99 bcg tomorrow, wondering if anybody has had any good or bad experiences with this particular bolt carrier group?

AIM is a great company. If something isn't right - they'll do everything they can to make sure you're happy. I've been a customer for many years and they're good people.

I know the $80 AIM BCG utilize cast extractors and gas keys.  Does anyone know how much, if any, this effects the parts service life?  From what I've read, there is no requirement under the TDB for the extractors to not be cast, though many seem to think billet machined will last longer.  What type of difference in life are we talking about here?

Ordered one about a month ago. So far I have fired about 100 rounds of Tula, 400 rounds of CBC 556, and another 400 rounds of Federal 62 gr with zero malfunctions in my BCM middy 16" with an H buffer.

The cast extractor and key aren't a big problem to me, they can be replaced for cheaper than buying a bolt with them already installed

i bought one as a spare. the only gripe i have is with the staking on the gas key.  i'll end up restaking them at some point.  other than that, they look fine.  fit great in my receiver.

Is there a need to replace them?  Do the cast parts fail earlier or more frequently than the billet?

I won't replace them until it starts giving me problems, there's no point in fixing something that ain't  broke

UPDATE: I ordered last night, aim called me this morning letting me know my bcg was shipping today with 2 day shipping and that I should have it by Thursday,  I am a very happy customer,  they went above and beyond to help me out with this. I'll update again once it is delivered Thursday

I ordered one a few days ago the NiB version.

Poking around on the web, you can read everything from "investment casting bad!" to investment casting is OK.  According to the interwebs, Dan Wesson revolvers are investment cast.  They take a hell of a lot more abuse than a gas key or extractor.

I won't be running it hard at all, the most action it'll get is a slide fire and maybe a tactical carbine training course, I'm not worried about the investment cast parts, aim wouldn't sell them if they were bad enough to fail

According to what I've seen, the TDP doesn't call for the extractor to be billet.

BCM and other high end bolt carriers use cast...so no worry there.   Personally, its one of the best deals I have every seen for a bcg.

Bcm uses cast extractors?

I got 2 of these i would guess around thanksgiving or so. Both have adequate staking but it's not the smashed way up over the top of the bolt head type you see everywhere lately but it's definitely more than enough to keep those bolts where they belong.

1 of them is in a 20" a2 so it has a fairly easy life, the other has been being pounded fairly regularly in a 11.5 carbine gas sbr that as of now has around 1200 rounds on it. It doesn't get cleaned much just lube when it needs it (seal 1) and a bore snake every 4-500 or so. I have zero issue with it and when I do clean it, I look it over good for cracks at lugs, pin hole, loose key, worn extractor, worn springs, etc. I can't find any reason to bitch about these bcgs, well worth the cost or more.

I just got 3 of the v2 nib ones that were in stock finally that I've been waiting for and as soon as those nitride ones come back in, im grabbing a few of those suckers to for spares or future builds. I say buy these things with confidence, they are good shit and if you would happen to have issue aim stands behind them forever and have awesome customer service.
