Without some detail:
- new or used - what is the barrel composition (Chrome lined, melonited, nothing) - how many rounds down pipe and on the components - .556 or .223 It's hard to give a fully honest opinion, however, just about any rifle length AR for $600 in today's climate (and a state as restrictive as NJ) is generally well bought provided it has not been beaten to death. What's wrong with the scope btw? Why is it trash? |

Bought it used, the lower is marked .223 / 5.56, I cannot see any barral markings, and dont want to pull the shroud. From what I found online this is the heavy varmit barrel 24" non lined (bushmaster website shows barrel with free float guard for $420 alone) Round count is unknown, but it appears lightly used. Action is very clean, little bit of brass on the extractor pin.. small scrapings on the center feed ramp, mag well has scuffs and scratched with no shiny metal showing through. Any place else I should look for wear? I am going to the range in afew hours to see how she does. The scope is a Tasco 10 -40x50...Walmart special $149 Also too big for my preference.. |

^^^Yes, given this, I would consider it a good buy @ $600.
Most standard bolt action .223's would land somewhere between $300-400 and what you have something better all around with the flexibility to mount a different upper if want to shoot a bigger round w/a heavier load. |

I have read enough throught the forums to see what is and isn't "popular" (and I dont care)..and My favorite quotes are guys that say "Does it go bang?" enough said... |

I have one myself and paid $650 for mine used. You did really well, they are not cheap guns. Mine shoots around 3/4", ten rounds at 100. I replaced the trigger with a Rock River two stage... |

There are better scopes, yes, but there's certainly nothing wrong with the one you have for now. I've actually heard good things about the T 10-40. You'd be suprised how good of a group you can get with a hand rolled 55 grain nosler BTIP or hornady vmax in that gun. been there, done that. I used aa2230 / h4895 though. very small groups good guns. |

Sorry to hear you bought a Bushmaster. Do explain. Please. Thank you. Ignore the Bushmaster bashing comments. Bushmasters are good rifles. Over 25 years I've used M-16A1s, M-16A2s, M-16A4s, M-4s (Colt,FN, Hydromatic lower rebuilds, GM rebuilds, FN rebuilds, Colt lower rebuilds)in the military community. On the civilian side Ive owned 4 Bushmasters, 2 Armalites, a PWA parts gun, CMMG, Eagle Arms, Colt, Rock River Arms and LMT. I would trust a Bushmaster just as much as any of the other brands. I would have no hesitation to take one into combat if I had to. You got a good deal on a good rifle. Enjoy it! Don't get caught up in the 'Gucci' worshipping that goes on in the AR community. |

Looks like a fair deal to me.
Bushmasters are pretty good rifles. I have. Ever had a problem with mine but I have not shot it that extensively. I know of several people who have really high round counts on theirs and the only issues they have had were due to extractor spring wear. That problem will of our on any ar with a high round count. |

Thanks again guys.. Ive only gottten to take it out twice.
Put about 100 rounds through and Im very happy with the results First shot groupingsl |

First AR I ever purchased was a 24" BM Varminter with the fluted barrel. It was (and is) a very accurate rifle, and has never given me any trouble at all. Way back when, I noticed that the first shot on a cold bore was always on the money. I started pasting quarters on the 100 yard range for the first shot each time I went to the range. I did it for 10 consecutive trips, over two years, in all weather. I lost one quarter to the back of the drawer, but the rest I still have. This pic was taken a long time ago, and posted before, and I still love it. http://i40.tinypic.com/2ahwgld.jpg That is AWESOME!!! Thanks for sharing. I knew buying it it was not "top of the line" but I wanted an AR with a long barrel for distance shooting. I cruised around this forum almost every day for three months before I actually registered, I cant even remember seeign a truly BASH thread. Yeah some people have a bad experience, or they know someone who has. Or they know someone who knows someone who knows someone who has.. But its all the same garbage in grabge out. I have been playing paintball for 10 years. And I show up with a makrer that is 10 yeasr old and at the time was "tits".. I get those 19y/o.. Laughing and pointing while they hold their newest electronic marker close to thehip. The it start raining, and they have to go home. I don't! I get to stay and keep playing.. Different strokes for different folks.
