| So I purchased a Stag Arms 3H upper assembly and want to put a rail system on it. What are some things I need to think about before I purchase? Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Think about how posting in big font makes others not want to post on your thread...
KAC makes the M4 Carbine RAS which will drop in on your upper. You can find them in the Equipment Exchange for around $200 or so. this is what the military uses on their M4s. You could also get a low profile gas block and put an extended rail on it. Daniel defense makes the ris II fsp, which may work with a railed gas block. anybody here know? |

You have plenty of options available. Almost truely endless possibilities of rail system options.
1. You can keep the carbine gas system and gas block and use a carbine length (7 inch) rail system of your choosing. Be aware that some products do not always work with a standard barrel nut or delta ring set up. Some rails require removal of the delta ring and installation of a proprietary barrel nut. There are drop in options that allow you to use a standard barrel nut and delta ring assembly. For example, the Daniel Defense Omega rail if a free float rail system in which all you do is fit to seperate rail system pieces together, tighten screws, and check proper installation. 2. Swap out gas block for a low profile gas block. This gives you a lot more options to choose from. Still keeping in mind if the rail system you choose works with the barrel nut/delta ring of not, you can choose rail systems from 7 inches to 15 inches. A low profile gas block is a gas block small enough to fit underneath a rail system and still deliver gas back through your gas tube to cycle and eject another round. This option is full of ways to customize your weapon pretty much any way you want. You could have a "sniper" type of rifle and run 13''-15'' rail system that allows for bipod use, larger scope, etc... Main thing I recommend is to search a large variety of rail system options. Dont limit yourself to just a carbine length rail system just because of a bulky gas block. Those can be easily removed and replaced with a low profile gas block that will accomidate more rail options (search youtube for this. It will help greatly). When you find a rail system you like, be sure to research all specs of that given rail system. Be sure to note if it accomidates use on a direct impingment gas system, works with standard barrel nut or has a factory barrel nut along with the rail system, if removal of the delta ring assembly is required (multiple ways to do that. Most people use a Dremel tool and cut through the delta ring, which isnt an issue, and some actually remove the assembly with other tools. Be sure to research youtube videos for further assistance), and finally be sure to get a rail system that work with whatever gas block system you choose. A 13'' rail system will not work with that current gas block. In short, review rail systems your interested in. All lengths and mounting options. Be sure to see if you need a low profile gas block or not. Research, research, RESEARCH what rail option you choose. It is best to be prepared on the installation of a new rail system, than to guess and rish damaging parts in the process. Hope this answers a few questions. Most of this is just my opinion on the matter of choosing rail systems. |
