| Basically I'm planning on building another upper and am considering going with a melonite (nitride, etc) treated barrel for this build. I have no real reason to go this route other than curiosity and wanting to try something different. I've searched the forum but didn't come up with much so I'll figured I'd ask anyway. Who is currently selling melonite treated barrels? Do any of you have any experience with them, or any recommendations? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. |

I have been looking at barrels, and there are several places offering nitride treated barrels:
http://www.ar15performance.com/barrels - They have two profiles of 16" barrel in-stock. They are good barrels, although most people use them for 6.8 rifles. http://www.superiorbarrels.com/Our%20Barrels.htm - They call their treatment "hard bluing". They have a couple of barrels in-stock, but they are pricy - more of a precision barrel. Daniel Defense offers a couple of melonited barrels, but I think they are all18", and out-of-stock. Brownells offers a couple of options. Do a keyword-search for "nitride". I have heard mixed reviews of their barrels, although they are generally favorable. There are a couple of other places that I can't think of right now. |

For my latest build I used a mosberg melonited barrel from Aim Surplus. I'm very impressed with it and for the price, you can't lose. Lucky for you they're back in stock - don't expect them to stay that way for long.
