I'd like to use a shorter barrel on my YHM, which currently has a 20" Colt HBAR with a rifle-length gas system. I'd really like to stay unthreaded (no muzzle brake), and have a full 16" of barrel. However, after looking for a bit, I haven't found any options that actually fit what I'm looking for:
Am I the only person looking for this combination? If so, I'll assume there's a reason nobody else would want this configuration and I'm very willing to listen to anyone else's experience. I believe I could purchase another barrel with a mid-length gas hole and have it cut down by ADCO for $30, if I'm reading it correctly. That seems like my best option at this point, but I'd like to see if I'm working toward a silly goal or anything along those lines. It shouldn't really matter, but since it's always the first reply to every thread: The goal here is to build a home defense rifle, but I can't justify buying/building an SBR. I already have a National Match Service Rifle, so I don't expect to be shooting this out over 200yd or so, and ultimate precision isn't a big concern. I like being able to keep this rifle MA-compliant (fixed stock, no/fixed muzzle device, etc) for the sake of resale value. Thanks in advance, and I've done as much searching as I could but couldn't come up with much. Please, lend me your experience!

Adco can do the work. probably your best bet. I'd think a perm attached muzzle devise would be better for resale. can it be a FH? If you go that route, I'd go 14.5 and attach muzzle devise to bring it to 16".
Wait. you can build a SBR but threaded barrels and FHs are illegal? get an SBR, the money you'll spend on barrel work will surpass the $200 tax for an sbr. then buy a new 10.5" barrel and swap out your 20" Do you live in NH or MA? |
