I just bought an AR with complete Spikes lower and Model 1 upper w/ 20" SS barrel, 6 mags full of ammo (green tip) and cheap BSA scope. I bought it from a guy that I work with. Paid $1,200.

From what I read, Model 1 sucks as far as customer service, but can anyone tell me about the about the quality of the upper and barrel? The guy that I bought it from says it's performed flawlessly and I have no reason to not believe him. He said this long before he the gun was even for sale. He just sold three rifles (this AR, M1 carbine, and M1A) to make room for more guns.

I'm also wondering how much I could sell the complete upper for, because I'm planning on getting a different upper with 14.5" barrel some time in the future.

I've done a build or two with model 1 kits and have had no problems. Pretty good stuff for the price. As for as a price, I would check their website for what you have and subtract what ever amount you think is fair for being used.

I buy parts off 'em @ gun shows - they're always well stocked, & have dealt w/ 'em for years.  Always in person, never online.  They're usually @ the D/FW shows.

Why don't you keep what you have and buy another lower and build the 14.5 up as a second?  You can never have enough rifles

That's ideally what I'd like to do. I'll probably have to build it a piece at a time if I go that route. Problem is, I have very little patience and I want it now.

And the other problem, between bike stuff and guns, I've been spending a lot of money lately and the wife seems to be a little irritated. She already thinks I'm preparing for war with all of the ammo I've been buying.

On top of that we're house shopping, so I was trying to take a break from my spending spree, to keep the peace.

I know the arfcom saying though, "Get both"!

Oh, and it's only a guess that it's a Model 1 barrel. I just assumed that the upper receiver and BCG is too.

The barrel is stamped "M1S   SS", so my guess was Model 1 Sales, Stainless Steel.

Model 1 barrels are currently E. R. Shaw.  fairly decent.  My M1S BCG is MP stamped.  It's only an AR BCG though.

Built a M4 and had small problems, front sight base is not F height, fixed with extended FSP.  Chamber did not like steel at first, polished with mop and FLITZ and now she runs on anything I feed her.

good shooting upper.

I went to Vinces new shop yesterday (the guy from Sons of Guns), just to see what he had. It's about 1/4 mile from my house.

All I can say is WOW, they had some sweeeet builds over there that had me drooling all over the counter

This upper is definitely getting traded for either a 14.5" or I may even go SBR. I guess I need to go post this upper for trade in the EE.

I wouldn't mind keeping it, but I really don't think I'll do much long range shooting with it. That's what the 30-06 is for.
