what is the best muzzle break or compensator to use on a ar 16" barrel? I am considering the Good Iron 5.56mm Muzzle Brake.                                                                http://www.smithenterprise.com/imagesprod/1002.02.jpg

What are you using the rifle for?  The best competition brake isn't necessarily the best tactical brake.

I mostly target shoot, and home protection. not to worried about flash.

For the most part brake/comp will be loud as hell indoors

Agreed.  But too be fair, a flash hider indoors will be hell too.  If an indoor engagement is probable, invest in a suppressor.

I'd look at "tactical" comps such as the BattleComp, Spike's Dynacomp, and BCM Gunfighter.

Avoid competition brakes such as the DPMS Miculek, Rolling Thunder, Surefire MB556K, JP Recoil Eliminator, etc.
