So on my searches around the internet looking at what upper I'm going to use on probably my first and only build I ran across http://store.ar15.com/ and was wondering about their billet upper receiver. I realize that I really don't gain anything from a forged upper but I just like the way that the VLTOR MUR/ Noveske MUR/ Mega billet upper/ Spikes tactical billet upper looks. As this will probably be my only build I will ever do I'm willing to spend the extra $75 to $100 for the receiver. My first question is if they're any good? I know of Noveske, spikes tactical, VLTOR, Mega arms and Seekins but nothing about the ARFCOM upper. And secondly if anyone has pictures of the upper with a forward assist as the site only shows the picture with no forward assist. |

That's a good looking upper. Thanks for the pic. Have you finished the upper since the picture? If so how does it shoot? Also did you purchase the upper recently? Just trying to decide whether I want to risk ordering one to find out it'll be on back order for month when I could be searching elsewhere for a billet upper.

I'm guessing it's a no but will this upper work with the Geissele SMR MKII rail? Not sure if anyone has tried it personally. http://geissele.com/13smrmkii.aspx Thanks! Never tried it, but why wouldn't it work? The Geissele rail goes over the upper and has 2 set screws for anti-rotation. People have reported fitting issues with the Noveske upper. Kinda hard to tell from the pictures but it looks like this upper may be thicker by the barrel. Thought I'd ask if anyone had installed one here before I bought it and it did not fit. |

Sure you do, forged uppers are stronger, which is why you see billet uppers being thicker. The MUR is a heavily reinforced forged upper. |

I currently have the handguard and there are 2 set screws that close on the sides of the upper so it does overlap the front of the upper receiver. I ran into the same thought process you are. Pulled the trigger and got one. I like it. A lot. Fit and finish is awesome. http://www.anonmgur.com/up/7af40a04dc06a7a4b5b24aab1a74e337.jpg Does the finish match in person, or does the picture show the true color, which looks to be slightly purple. |
| So here's the question of the day. Has anybody done any comparisons between the the VLTOR MUR/ mega arms or noveske MUR against the ARFCOM upper? Any likes or dislikes when compared? Any reasons that I should hold out for one or the other? As this will be my one and only I just want as much feedback as possible before I pull the trigger on this so to speak. |

Like I already posted, the MUR is a heavily reinforced forged upper, nothing else comes close. Do you need that? Nope, I seriously doubt it. Go with whatever you like from a visual perspective. |
| Lighting in the pic is makin it look slightly purple. It is not that way in real life. Visually I'm really happy about it. I work professionally in the architectural paint industry(8yrs) and match color on a daily basis. A bit picky as well.. if that helps you decide. |

From the picture it actually looks like the texture is different. |
| Texture is slightly different. The lower is Dpms.. the upper feels slightly more 'porous' I guess would be the best word for it. It's not quite gritty but you can feel a little difference between the two. When lowers become more available I will probably swap it out for something closer. But as it stands its my first and I'm happy with it. It will do exactly what I want it to. |
