As you can see im new to posting and trying to build my first AR.
I want an assembled upper with a bull barrel 20-24" stainless and fluted in 5.56.
AR15depot.com out of stock till Feb.... and they were very short, even rude!
model1sales.com I read what you guys said and decided I didn't need the headache..... or double charge to my card.

I want to be around the $600.00 mark anyone else know a company?

Take a look at http://www.civtactical.com/shop/

I found out about this guy last spring through an article online. Here is the link:

http://www.majorpandemic.com/2012/04/civ-tactical-custom-kit-upper-review.html

My dad used him for a 16" SS build and it turned out great! He took it to a local range to sight it in and the guy running the shop went out of his way tell him how much he loved it. I am in the process of building one right now and I was really pleased with what I got. Fantastic customer service is an understatement. He does build kits too so there is another way you can bring the total $$ down. This is the first place I would look and with everything that's going on right now he'll give you the best price. It might go up a little over the next few weeks as individual parts go up from suppliers but he won't rip you off. He'll customize the build for your price range so if you don't see something you like, call and he'll take care of you.

Hope this helps

Not a problem. Throw a pic up when youre done. That sounds like it's going to be a nice rifle when you are done

I just ordered an upper from midway, they allow back orders with expected delivery the first week of January.  I am willing to get on a list so when they do arrive here it comes.

Its should be on the second page...

either leave a comment on the website or call him if you have any trouble. Like I said he does custom builds too, all he has to do is switch out a barrel. The company is outta California so if you are on the East Coast theres the time difference to think about. Leave a message and he'll call you back. He's also on facebook if you want to see pictures of other builds. I'd like to say he posted a picture a while back of a rifle he built similiar to what you want. It was for some homeland security guy for three gun.

Why do you want a fluted barrel? You're talking about a serious round count if you are worried about heat.

well at least youre honest lol. If it were all about function, I think you are better off buying either a regular 16" upper or a light scout upper. I bought the standard 16" upper with a 12" YHM Diamond Rail
and its pretty light (it also looks really sexy) . Although, I'm comparing it to the M16A4 I carried in Afghan. (which in turn is extremely light when compared to the SAW lol).

In the Marines we shoot the 500 yard line with M4's alongside the longer M16's so it's not like you wont be able to hit someone at that range because you dropped 4" on your barrel. Even if it's an extra pound when you get lights or fancy sights it's not a big deal. If you can't shoulder the weapon you probably should have bought a gym membership anyway. I like the 16" because its a good all around length and you won't have to pin the muzzle comp.

If you are dead set because of the looks of a SS w/ the flutes, buy a shorter barrel so it's in your price range. Its still sexy, slightly more accurate then a chrome-lined barrel, and the SS won't rust...

All in all the AR platform is a battle rifle. A good scope goes a long way for accuracy but a bolt is where its at if you want a tack driver.

Regardless of what you decide just remember, anything too cheap is cheap for a reason.

I am a long range nut... and a firm deliever in the old saying " fear the man with one gun, because he prolly knows how to use it"  so I have one other rifle it is a custom .300 Win Mag with A-5 stock and a nightforce.

so my objective for this build is a Ar that is consistent enough to be able to dial to 650 for coyotes and something cheaper to shoot so I can be on a dog town and not cringing everytime I pull the trigger.... berger bullets are not getting cheaper. so i was thinking the 20-24" but talking to your CIV guy im considering the 18" but still wanting to keep the 1/8 twist for a large bullet.

just worried by the time I get my hands on the extra its going to cost me due to the scare it will be 6 months lead time

That .300 sounds like a great rifle, I'm jealous!

Yeah a 18"-24" sounds like the length for you. There's a big difference between shooting prairie dogs and the "E" target.

What kind of scope are you thinking about mounting then? Another Nightforce? I heard they had a few scopes that used Horus visions reticles.

that gun has put alot of meat on the table!

If i could get a nightforce for a steal i would but prolly going to do a Vortex Viper I love there line for the money! cant beat them.

Yup that scope weights more than the rifle. I'll have to take a look at the vortex down the road and compare the horus to it. Might be a winner
