Upper and Lower Receivers- Thinking both DPMS for a snug fit.. Both Stripped, looking to build it all from scratch.
Id like to find a good lower kit that does not have an issue with bad parts or too hard of a trigger pull. I don't plan to use the Parts kit grip, but not worried cause I will keep it for spare or other build. Barrel- I would like either a 18" or 20" Barrel, not sure of twist. I would like this barrel to be strictly for .223 so I gain some accuracy. (If that is true)... (Fluted would be nice) I have had a hard time finding one that I like. HandGaurd- was thinking THIS Im not sure if this is a good match for the size barrel i'm looking at or even if its a good match for the upper im looking at getting. Some input would be greatly appreciated.! From what I have seen on the forms so far that is not hard to come by. Thanks Caleb |

Nice rail, it's listed as rifle length so as long as you use a low profile has block you will be good either way. I really like the yhm blocks. If your 18" is mid you won't even see the block.
Edit: weird, when I first looked at it, it only showed the rifle length. Since it's free float I would get the rifle length |

Not to burst your bubble, but getting an upper and lower from the same manufacturer to not ensure a snug fit. +1 on that. It's all a matter of luck when you're trying to build a budget rifle. I lucked out and my New Frontier Armory G15(aluminum) lower fit perfect with my Palmetto Start Armory Uppers. Lock up is nice and tight. If you want a "Matched" set, then go with the rainier arms combo. I think they hand select them to make sure they fit nice. http://www.rainierarms.com/?page=shop/detail&product_id=2195 Also, consider a hardguard with modular rails. Through experience most people have found that much of the sides and lower rails are just wasted add on weight. People never use them, so it's better to shave weight and make the handguard more comfortable as well. I'd recommend the Midwest Industries GEN2 SS and the Samson Evolution or rainier arms evolution version. Secondly, it's better to just buy a lower build kit and build it with the stock trigger. It's safer to start with, then if you are very proficient in the use of the AR, you should buy a light competition trigger, i recommend Geiselle. The trigger only takes literally 30 seconds to install. Just pop the pins out, orient the new trigger and pops the pins back in. Palmetto state armory has nice lower build kits on sale, the magpul MOE kit is only sale for $110 i think. You get everything you need to complete a lower. |

I had that barrel in my sights! I really like it. That will most likely be the one I choose.
Barrel, I would like to get that coated if possible. (Is there a noticeable difference in a barrel that is chambered in .223 rather then both 5.56 and .223 ?? ) BCG-, Idk if that is going over board for a first build.. I dont want to spend a TON, but I would like it to last for a pretty long time! I know that comes with taking care of it and oil. Still sticking with the YHM, handgaurd. I am still looking at different places to buy the Uppers and Lowers. |

The difference in only a few thousandths of an inch. If I were you, I'd get the barrel chambered in 5.56, you could then shoot either .223 or 5.56. Conversely, if your barrel is chambered in .223 you don't have the option to safely shoot the 5.56. It will shoot but the 5.56 is higher pressured, possibly too high for a .223 chamber. It could go "BOOM". |
