Does anyone make a freefloat tube similar to this one, without a rail? I just want a simple tube with round ventilation holes.

WOA makes one....

Theirs doesn't go all the way around. I'm looking for something sorta early 90s retroish, like this.

Ron, the rails on the PRI carbine fiber forend I use on my skunk slaying carbine are all removable. Would that work?

Would it be possible to take a standard undrilled tube and drill it yourself?

Of course but that would require effort and doing stuff

I'd rather mail order what I want than have an undrilled tube and a bunch of tools etc. mailed to me here.

Check out the APEX Handguard System free float tube.

Close. Too many tiny holes though, and it's rifle length.

Third float tube from the top?

You could get one like this RRA one and go to a local machine shop to add holes.  This one at Model 1 Sales can optionally come vented; you could see if they can custom-machine one for you with vent holes instead of stripes.

Take a look at the Nordic Components one HERE

I know they're not perfectly round, but the closest to that retro heat shield look that I know of.

Model 1 makes one like you are talking about for CMMG.  They don't catalog it but maybe a phone call would get one.

Alexander Arms MK10 seems to be similar to what you are looking for.  it is a composite material, so will be more comfortable to shot when hot.....or in a cold environment. MK10 from AA

I like the AA tube. I wonder if it can be purchased with no holes in it at all, for a custom project.

it's worth a call to ask, but if you just want a tube to do a custom drill on I would look at the Clark Custom Carbon fiber FFtube.....it's around $100.  Hyperform and one other company also make very affordable carbon fiber FFtubes that only really differ in the barrel nut mount.

The Nordic tube pictured a few posts up is a great handguard, and inexpensive too compared to a lot of the other options.
