How hard should this be to unscrew? First I tried a screw driver between the slots, and bent them, then I found a 12 inch crescent wrench, and still won't budge.
Granted I am holding the upper and barrel assy in my hands, but I have never had this much trouble before.
This is a factory barrel and flash suppressor from PSA...  I would put in between something to hold it better, but am afraid the sight base will give before the flash suppressor does.
And no, it's not pinned....

You should pick up an AR multi-tool.  You can use it for muzzle devices, stocks, barrel nuts, etc.

I have one like this:

You can pick them up for about $30.  I know mine has come in handy many, many times.

HEAT is your friend.  A torch will really make easy work of that.

you need to be properly securing your BARREL in a vise when undoing a flash hider and attaching it.

Plenty of threads on here from guys who have done it improperly without a vise or using just a upper vise and snapping their barrel index pin or cracking the upper.

get a couple blocks of wood and a rubber hose piece and do it right.
