The STR tubes can hold a total of (4) CR123 or (2) AA batteries. The rear storage compartment on the ACS-L can hold just as much, if not more and it can hold things that won't fit in storage tubes. When you say that the STR looks almost as big as the ACS, what are you referring to? The length, the width, something else? Go to Magpul's site and compare the dimensions of the stocks. The ACS-L is longer and narrower than the CTR. While I don't have an ACS-L I do have an ACS and an STR. I do notice the difference in length between the ACS and STR. |

Width wise. Stickman's picture makes the STR look a lot wider then I originally thought.
My brother has a ACS and I feel that its huge, and almost has too much cheekweld area. I feel like my UBR is perfect, but has no place on my 16" carbine. FYI My UBR is on my 18" AR |

Quoted: I have a wide range of Magpul stocks (M93, UBR, ACS, STR, CTR and MOE) and while I do find the ACS and STR a little wide, I do appreciate the solid check weld and extra storage. Admittedly, those stocks look a little wide when the rifle is just sitting there but once I shoulder one, they feel good to me. Width wise. Quoted: I'd put a CTR or an STR on that one. I wouldn't want the extra length of the ACS for a red-dot equipped rifle but that's just me. Quoted: This one. What type of AR are you putting it on? I have a STR on my 14.5" AR with red dot and magnifier, and an ACS-L is going on my 16" AR with scope. http://i56.photobucket.com/albums/g165/InfiniteGrim/IMG_7797_8_9_tonemapped.jpg |

Infinite, I just swapped a Vltor Modstock for an ACS-L, and I really like the profile, feel, and balance that the ACS-L has. The Vltor was just too fat––I never used the storage tubes––and the butt was too wide to shoulder the rifle quickly wearing a duty uniform and soft armor. My rifle is similar to yours, BTW, only I have an H-1.
My other carbine has the CTR. It's a clean, simple stock, but I don't think it would balance out my M4 with the light and rail. When I purchased the ACS-L, I compared it and ACS side-by-side. The ACS was just as wide and bulky as the Vltor, and was heavier than the ACS-L. I haven't used the storage area on the ACS-L yet. If I get a chance this weekend, I'll try and shove a couple 123s and a 2032 in it and report back. |

But if you like the extra length of the ACS, and want a cheek weld, but don't like how fat it is, then the ACS-L is your answer. |
