| Alright in the last few months ive gotten pretty bored with my current rifles and am wanting something new so instead of going out and buying a new rifle im wanting to just modify one of my current ones. Right now i have a DPMS Bull 24 its a darn good shooting rifle but its only a 1:9 twist and im looking for a 1:7 or possibly 1:8 ive been looking at some of the WOA barrels on thier site and was wanting someone who has owned one before to throw out some pros and cons please or if anyone else has a suggestion on another barrel feel free im looking for a heavy/varmit contour, 20-26 inch length, 1:8 twist or faster. I plan on adding the magpul prs stock, either a troy or DD hand guard, and maybe a trigger not sure on that yet. Budget isnt a problem on the barrel really not looking to put 600 bucks in one but somewhere from 200-500 isnt out of the question. The rifle will mainly be target shooting reguarly out to 500 yards occasionaly out to 800 so keep in mind i want to be able to handle the heavy bullets and yes i do reload my own so not dependent on factory ammo. This rifle already has a leaupold VX-3LR 6.5-20x40 scope on it. and if anyone has any other suggestions on barrels i dont mind wait time as long as its worth it. Thanks for any suggestions. |

Brux makes some very nice bbl's and the wait time's are not near as bad as others.
Have shot 6 or 7 20" Barrels out to 600 and 1000yds with great results. A little more than a WOA Barrel but better quality imo But in all honesty I don't think you will tell the difference between them. (wilson-brux-kreiger etc) |

Im looking for half moa Lilja or Kreiger, or Compass Lake or White Oak made from a very good blank. CLE and WOA are barrel smiths, they machine barrel blanks into finished barrels. Dan Lilja and Kreiger make both the blank and the finish machining, although Kreiger sells blanks also. CLE uses a lot of Douglas blanks, Shilen, Mike Rock's cut rifled blanks, other good choices out there too. Every barrel has it's own "personality", handloading is really a requisite for maximum accuracy. LOTS of other things go into a 1/2moa rifle, good scope, optic mount, trigger, cheekweld, etc etc. If you want an easy choice that's probably in stock, Lilja has a 24" bull profile that he normally has on the shelf: http://www.riflebarrels.com/products/ar.htm |
