| I am considering replacing my RRA elite operator 2 handguard with a Troy Industries VTAC.. iam doing this to reduce the overall weight of the rifle. I can do a complete field strip and reassemble, but thats about the extent of my gunsmithing abilitys.... is this something I will be able to do on my own? What tools are involved? or will I need to seek some outside help...... thanks in advance guys. |

I have not used that product but here's some info to look over...
VTAC Handguard Search Troy should have an instruction sheet as well. |

I just replaced my RRA operator 2 tactical with a Troy Alpha 11in with site. Before the project my AR weighed in at 8.9lb. With the Troy alpha, low profile gas block and standard barrel nut it now weighs 7.2lb. Something that surprised me was how much the gas block wieghed that came with the operator 2.

Installing was crazy easy, three screws. Now the extremely hard part was taking off the RRA rail. RRA lock tights everything, when doing it I thought I would break my gun. I went with the 11in just because I like the look of more exposed barrel then the 13in. If you wanted to get the Troy with integrated site you will have to get the 13in, because yours is a mid length system and the site would hit the gas block. Troy warns about this on there website.
Later today I'll try to post pics of the gun on a scale so you can see if it's worth the money. |
